Denny Hamlin is never shy about sharing his opinions. And when it came to NASCAR\u2019s most recent race at Watkins Glen, a few of his favorite targets came merging together.<\/p>\n
Hamlin has spoken out before about his lack of affinity for road course racing<\/a> and improvements NASCAR and its broadcasters can make<\/a> at televising races. Both of those came into effect this week with the series at the famed road course at Watkins Glen.<\/p>\n On his\u00a0Actions Detrimental\u00a0podcast<\/a>, Hamlin was critical of Fox and NASCAR missing too much of the dramatic action on the track and blamed the lack of people and track workers paying attention to what\u2019s happening at all times.<\/p>\n Would road courses be more enjoyable if the cameras actually caught everything? \ud83d\udc40 pic.twitter.com\/clbGCc8DuZ<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Dirty Mo Media (@DirtyMoMedia) May 12, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThe thing I don\u2019t love about road courses and watching road courses is as a fan I can see only 1\/10th of the track at one time,\u201d Hamlin said. \u201cThey didn\u2019t follow a few wrecks that happened. That was for sure. NASCAR has to get better with that. There\u2019s absolutely no excuse. You have cameras pointing in every direction of this race track. For you not to see Cody Ware destroyed in that final corner, holy cow man.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey just don\u2019t have the track workers that they used to have. It can\u2019t just be one person. I\u2019m sorry, you can\u2019t look at 24 monitors at one time. There has to be multiple people looking for dramatic events that\u2019s going on that could be a hazard. You can\u2019t just like, \u2018oh we didn\u2019t see that.\u201d<\/p>\n Incredibly, the Cody Ware accident that Hamlin spoke of late in the race at Watkins Glen didn\u2019t just not get covered on the television broadcast. It didn\u2019t bring out a caution flag either. When you see his impact with the wall, you wonder how that is possible.<\/p>\n Wow. Cody Ware had a pretty hard crash heading into Turn 7 late in the race today that wasn\u2019t picked up by FOX, and probably should have been a yellow.<\/p>\n But, Ware kept driving and brought his No. 51 to the garage eventually.<\/p>\n Hard hit, though.#NASCAR<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/usH5fpvQOp<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Joseph Srigley (@joe_srigley) May 10, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n Road course racing is a very different animal than ovals. Instead of the racing action being confined in a neat geometric loop, the action can span several square miles. It\u2019s like the difference in broadcasting a basketball game versus broadcasting a golf tournament. You\u2019re never going to catch everything live that you should with the cars so spread out over the track.<\/p>\n Having said that, it\u2019s reasonable to expect replays of big crashes and events, even if they don\u2019t bring out a yellow flag. Fox has cameras all over the racetrack at every turn. And clearly someone, whether from Fox, NASCAR, or both, should have caught this one. NASCAR fans have been critical of Fox broadcasts<\/a> this year and missing an incident this big is only going to sew the seeds of discord even deeper.<\/p>\n \t
