NASCAR star Chase Elliott has added a non-NASCAR race to his schedule, with the 2020 Cup Series champion set to run in the Tar Heel 250 next week.<\/p>\n
The Hendrick Motorsports driver, who recently made a Hall of Fame plea<\/a>, will run in the ASA STARS National Tour event at Hickory Motor Speedway on May 21, ahead of competing in the Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway three days later.<\/p>\n A post on social media from the ASA STARS National Tour read, “2020 NASCAR Cup Series Champion Chase Elliott has entered to race the Tar Heel 250 at Hickory Motor Speedway next Thursday, May 21st!” It is not the first time Elliott<\/a>, who escaped a late penalty at Watkins Glen last weekend<\/a>, has competed at Hickory Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n Posting on X, NASCAR reporter Steven Taranto also wrote, “Chase Elliott has been in the field for the ASA race at Hickory leading into the Coke 600 the past several years.<\/p>\n “This year, he’s doing it again. Chase ran second in this race to Colby Howard a year ago.”<\/p>\n Heading into this weekend’s NASCAR All-Star Race, Elliott currently sits third in the Cup Series standings, with his most recent win seeing him emerge victorious from Texas Motor Speedway in the W\u00fcrth 400.<\/p>\n The 30-year-old is also the only driver, alongside 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick, this season to have recorded multiple wins, having previously won at Martinsville.<\/p>\n However, despite this, he admitted after his win in Texas that he still does not feel as though he and his team are firing on full cylinders just yet.<\/p>\n “We fired off the year, and truthfully, I think as a group haven\u2019t been as strong as we want to be or expect to be,\u201d Elliott said after the Texas win. “Have just dug in and put our heads down and gone to work.<\/p>\n He added, “We tested at [North] Wilkesboro earlier in the year, and then Kyle [Larson] tested at Chicago last week, or maybe a couple of weeks ago. Nonetheless, in the last couple of weeks. I think all those things, you start putting pieces together and improving and getting to a good place.<\/p>\n “Then you combine that with just a really good day of execution for our team in particular and wound up with a great result.
