Suoni Per Il Popolo<\/a> music festival is returning to Montreal in its 26th year<\/a>, running from June 16 to 28. This annual festival will return with an impressive, eclectic lineup and approximately 50 shows.<\/p>\n

The schedule is incredibly versatile, featuring everything from esoteric electronic music to underground jazz at venues around Montreal. Unconfined by medium, Suoni Per Il Popolo’s offerings span theatrical live music performances, a birthday party with local legend Guizo LaNuit, and even a short film feature.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 bas le Patriarcat! \/ Smash the Patriarchy
Rough Spells and Poolgirl are among the artists performing. This show will mark the launch of ABOBO (an initiative that, among other things, raises funds for access to abortion in the US). Montreal’s own Poolgirl and Toronto’s Rough Spells will drive the message home with their respective brands of riot grrrl and self-described “doom witch ‘n’ roll.”<\/p>\n

BLK D’OR
This show will celebrate free Black expression and unite artists from genres such as soul and jazz. Put together by reggae artist Jahsun, the show will be incredibly versatile, featuring harpists such as Christelle St-Julien and an R&B soul singer Sam I Am Montolla. They will even feature a little bit of poetry.<\/p>\n

Son et Solidarit\u00e9: Sounds for Palestine
A variety of different artists and a filmmaker will come together to benefit the Elham Fund and the Edward Said Music Conservatory. The show will include a short Arabic film, The Memory, directed by noted Syrian filmmaker Mohamad Malas. Both Never Temple and Moose Terrific will perform, the former with transportive soundscapes and the latter with a post-punk-influenced electronic music.<\/p>\n

Un \u00c9change: Trading Places: Trueque-Residency
Half improv, half musical collaboration, this show is all about teamwork. The show will blend sounds from Montreal, Vancouver and, for the first time, Mexico City. This show will feature Vancouver local Anju Singh delivering abstracted, elemental sound. The show will also include James Nicholas Dumile Goddard, who will perform under the abstract jazz alias Skin Tone, which was originally established as a creative outlet against police violence towards Black communities.<\/p>\n

Watch That Ends the Night Records Showcase
Bored with your music taste? Want to find some new artists to listen to? This show will feature a lineup of artists with new releases. Pinksnail (based in Montreal) loud, energetic and refreshingly frantic, making them impossible not to enjoy. Aniqa Dear is an art-pop project with influences from both Pakistani and Arabic music.
