Beyonc\u00e9 Knowles-Carter<\/a> is in the running for artist of the year at this year’s MTV’s Video Music Awards<\/a>, and it’s a big deal.<\/p>\n

The VMAs will broadcast live from New York’s UBS Arena on Sept. 7. Taylor Swift<\/a>, Bad Bunny<\/a>,\u00a0Kendrick Lamar<\/a>,\u00a0Morgan Wallen<\/a>, The Weeknd<\/a> and\u00a0Lady Gaga<\/a>, who leads the pack with 12 total nominations, are also nominated in the prestigious category.<\/p>\n

This year is especially significant for Beyonc\u00e9<\/a>, who will face off with Swift for the most ever VMA wins. Both women have a total of 30 wins and are nominated for artist of the year at the 2025 show. Last year, Swift took home seven VMAs, tying Beyonc\u00e9 as the top winner.<\/p>\n

Of course, Beyonc\u00e9 is already the most decorated artist in Grammys history<\/a> with a total of 35 wins. Ahead of the 2025 award show, she became the leading nominee with a total of 11 nominations<\/a>. Some of those included nominations in the country and American roots categories for the first time. In total, seven different songs from the album were nominated across four genres.<\/p>\n

She wound up winning album of the year for the first time<\/a> for her eighth studio album, “Cowboy Carter.”<\/a> She also made history as the first Black woman to win best country album <\/a>for 27-track project.<\/p>\n

“I’d like to thank all the incredible country artists that accepted this album,” Beyonc\u00e9 said when accepting the award. “I think sometimes genre is a cold word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just want to encourage people to do what they are passionate about and to stay persistent.”<\/p>\n

She also won the award for best country duo\/group performance<\/a> for “II Most Wanted” with Miley Cyrus at the award show.<\/p>\n

Of course, Beyonc\u00e9 singer closed out her\u00a0Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin’ Circuit Tour<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0Allegiant Stadium<\/a>\u00a0in Vegas on July 26. The concert signaled the end of her “Cowboy Carter” era \u2014 a 32-stop stadium tour that spanned the U.S. and Europe. The tour became the\u00a0highest grossing country tour with over $400 million in earnings.<\/a><\/p>\n
