A Kelowna<\/a>, B.C., man says a racist road rage incident<\/a> involving his parents and young son has been difficult to relive after video of the confrontation spread widely on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s disgusting,\u201d said Sam Singla. \u201cHis tone was very aggressive. He was very vile.\u201d<\/p>\n

The incident happened on Mother\u2019s Day near downtown Kelowna and involved Singla\u2019s parents and his five-year-old son.<\/p>\n

Dashcam footage from another driver appears to show what led up to the confrontation.<\/p>\n

The video shows a driver in front of Singla\u2019s parent\u2019s vehicle making a U-turn.<\/p>\n

The vehicle makes a temporary stop.<\/p>\n

The video then shows Singla\u2019s parents making a turn into a parking lot.<\/p>\n

But while the couple is turning into the parking lot, the driver that made the U-turn starts to back up and the two vehicles collide.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty clear from the video that he had backed up into my dad,\u201d Singla said. \u201cBoth parties heard the noise, they came out and he started yelling racial slurs at my dad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Video of the altercation, which has circulated online, shows a man in a pink shirt yelling racist slurs at Singla\u2019s parents, who have lived in Canada for decades, as well as at the person filming the incident.<\/p>\n

RCMP confirmed they investigated the matter and said while the incident involved verbal abuse and racial language in a public setting, police stated, \u201cthey did not meet the Criminal Code elements required for a hate propaganda-related offence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative MP for Okanagan Lake West-South Kelowna Dan Albas condemned the incident on his social media platforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile perhaps no laws were broken, to me, it\u2019s despicable,\u201d Albas said.<\/p>\n

Albas added that as an elected official, it\u2019s important for his constituents to know what his values are<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you don\u2019t speak out and say that\u2019s totally unacceptable as a society, as a country, as a community, then then nothing is unacceptable because we have to draw the line,\u201d Albas said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I think it\u2019s up to public officials, such as myself, to say the line was clearly crossed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Singla said his family has received strong community support but added that some of the comments defending the man online were more shocking than the incident itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople called him a hero and a patriot and people called for him to be, like, \u2018I want to buy him a beer. He should be our next MP,\u2019\u201d Singla said. \u201cThat\u2019s what really disgusted me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the incident, Singla said he is not angry at the man involved but added he hopes he gets help.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s an individual that\u2019s hurting,\u201d he said. \u201cHe\u2019s obviously very angry inside and he\u2019s holding on to a lot of things.\u201d<\/p>\n
