The city of Winnipeg has secured an additional $4 million to build more homes and help address the housing crisis across the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0annual installment of $30.6 million is helping create more places for Winnipeggers to live, and on Wednesday, the city announced there will be an additional $4.04 million added to the\u00a0Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF).<\/p>\n
“Our government is removing barriers and cutting red tape to enable more housing in communities across Canada,” said the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada in a press release. “We reward local governments that are delivering real results and building more homes faster. By reinvesting in proven success, we are helping more Canadians access the housing they need.”<\/p>\n
Focused on getting people housed<\/p>\n
According to the release,\u00a0this installment is the third of four scheduled payments. These make up the city\u2019s original $122.4 million HAF agreement with the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).<\/p>\n

“This performance bonus is a direct result of our commitment to change how we build in Winnipeg,\u201d”said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “We\u2019re cutting red tape, modernizing our processes and working with the federal and provincial governments and other partners to get more homes built across Winnipeg. This additional $4 million allows us to further accelerate our efforts to ensure every Winnipegger has a place to call home.”<\/p>\n
Of the 9,716\u00a0new permitted housing units announced on Dec. 4, 2025, over 1,000 of those are affordable units.\u00a0<\/p>\n
