RUSTON \u2013 Louisiana Tech Tennis head coach Amy Sargeant<\/a> announced Thursday the signing of Lucia Gallegos, who will join the Bulldogs for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

\nGallegos comes to Ruston after spending two seasons at the University of Louisville and will arrive at LA Tech as a redshirt sophomore. \u00a0A native of San Jose, Costa Rica, she attended Blue Valley School and brings both collegiate and international experience to the Bulldogs roster.
\n\u00a0
\n“Lucia brings an incredible level of passion, discipline, and competitive excellence to our program,” said Sargeant.\u00a0 “Her work ethic and love for the game embody exactly the culture we are building, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the future of Louisiana Tech Tennis.”

\nDuring her time at Louisville this past season, Gallegos helped the Cardinals climb as high as No. 62 nationally in the team rankings. \u00a0She posted a 9-6 overall singles record and captured the Flight 4 singles title at the Hoosier Classic with three straight victories during the fall season. \u00a0She also earned wins over opponents from Southern Miss and Virginia Tech at the North Florida Fall Invitational.\u00a0 In spring dual play, Gallegos appeared in five singles matches, primarily at the No. 6 position. \u00a0

\n“I chose Louisiana Tech because of the coaching staff and the opportunity to grow on and off the court,” said Gallegos.

\nShe also compiled a 13-13 overall doubles record during her first collegiate season, including a strong 7-5 mark in fall competition. \u00a0Highlighting her doubles play was a Round of 16 appearance at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional after earning victories over teams from East Tennessee State and Indiana.
\n\u00a0
\nGallegos carried momentum into the spring doubles season, opening with wins in six of her first seven matches, including notable victories against nationally recognized programs Florida State and Miami (Fla.). \u00a0She redshirted during the 2024-25 campaign.
\n\u00a0
\nPrior to Louisville, Gallegos established herself as one of the top junior players in Costa Rica. \u00a0She was ranked No. 1 in the U18 division in her home country and held national rankings of No. 2 in singles and No. 1 in doubles as a member of Costa Rica’s national team.
\n\u00a0
\nInternationally, she represented Costa Rica in the Billie Jean King Cup and the Central American and Caribbean Games. \u00a0Gallegos also owns a career-high ITF juniors ranking of 475 and a 9.02 UTR singles rating.
