Please try again<\/p>\n<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement 3<\/p>\n<p>This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.<\/p>\n<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p>\u2018No speed limit\u2019 and \u2018no consequences\u2019 without cameras<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the vandalism was happening on a regular basis, speeds were already starting to creep up, but once the camera was gone altogether, that\u2019s when things really picked up \u2013 and now we\u2019re back to the Parkside of old, which is: There\u2019s no speed limit,\u201d Gholizadeh said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can decide what speed you want to go and now there\u2019s no consequences either for that, because speed cameras are gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The numbers show speeding is becoming more common each month since the speed camera was shut down, \u201cand as more people become comfortable with speeding on Parkside again, I imagine those numbers will just continue to creep up,\u201d Gholizadeh added.<\/p>\n<p>He said that\u2019s led to more dangerous crashes.<\/p>\n<p>Safe Parkside has published a handful of photos of multi-vehicle collisions it says took place since the speed camera was removed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Parkside Dr speed graph\" class=\"embedded-image__image lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/parkside-graph.jpg\"  height=\"734\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1000\"\/>Where are the cops?<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, Gholizadeh said they\u2019ve \u201cvery sparingly\u201d seen police enforcing the 40-km\/h limit on Parkside. Safe Parkside has filed a freedom-of-information request to see how many speeding tickets have been issued, but the Toronto Police Service has yet to provide a response, Gholizadeh said.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement 4<\/p>\n<p>This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.<\/p>\n<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p>Toronto Police told the Sun on Thursday evening that it can\u2019t provide numbers on speeding or enforcement on Parkside Dr. without a freedom-of-information request. In a statement, communications adviser Nadine Ramadan said TPS uses analytics to guide its traffic enforcement work, and has a clear focus on \u201cdriver actions and risky driving behaviours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the period when speed cameras were in place, our enforcement efforts continued just as they do today,\u201d Ramadan wrote.<\/p>\n<p data-async=\"\">Safe Parkside has been advocating for safety on the street since 2021. That same year, a <a data-evt-val=\"{\" control_fields=\"\" link=\"\" and=\"\" wife=\"\" were=\"\" killed=\"\" data-evt=\"click\" data-evt-typ=\"click\" href=\"https:\/\/torontosun.com\/news\/residents-fume-after-deadly-high-park-crash-kills-two\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">husband and wife were killed<\/a> in a crash at Parkside\u2019s intersection with Spring Rd., north of Lake Shore Blvd.<\/p>\n<p data-async=\"\">The group says an orange pylon now sits to the west of Parkside where the speed camera once stood. That camera clearly had enemies, as it was cut down <a data-evt-val=\"{\" control_fields=\"\" link=\"\" least=\"\" seven=\"\" times=\"\" data-evt=\"click\" data-evt-typ=\"click\" href=\"https:\/\/torontosun.com\/news\/local-news\/parkside-drive-speed-cam-cut-down-for-the-seventh-time\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">at least seven times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-async=\"\">Parkside lies entirely within Parkdale-High Park ward, which is represented by Gord Perks. The longtime city councillor has <a data-evt-val=\"{\" control_fields=\"\" link=\"\" he=\"\" won=\"\" run=\"\" again=\"\" data-evt=\"click\" data-evt-typ=\"click\" href=\"https:\/\/torontosun.com\/opinion\/columnists\/toronto-needs-change-city-hall-olivia-chow\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced he won\u2019t run again<\/a>, and Gholizadeh said he\u2019s hopeful that this fall\u2019s municipal election will bring fresh solutions to Parkside Dr.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement 5<\/p>\n<p>This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.<\/p>\n<p>Article content<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Loading...\" height=\"64\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/dcs-static.gprod.postmedia.digital\/21.2.1\/websites\/images\/common\/icon-spinner-animated.svg\" width=\"64\"\/><\/p>\n<p>We apologize, but this video has failed to load.<\/p>\n<p>Play VideoSafety issues obvious<\/p>\n<p>While the fixes may not be obvious, the issues are.<\/p>\n<p>While Parkside has a 40-km\/h speed limit, it turns into Keele St. north of Bloor St., and some motorists treat it as an \u201curban highway,\u201d as Gholizadeh put it.<\/p>\n<p>High Park is to the west, while a number of houses on the east side sit atop a steep slope.
