burning out of control about 30 km northwest of Sundre, Alta., prompting an emergency alert to be issued for the area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>All campers, backcountry users and travellers in the area near the junction of highways 734 and 584 have been advised to leave immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in the area have also been told to prepare for a possible evacuation.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tWhile area residents have been put on \u201cevacuation alert,\u201d campers and Wildfire information officer Melissa Story told Global News that the evacuation alert was issued for \u201cprecautionary reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>As of about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, the fire was estimated to be approximately 130 hectares (1.3 square kilometres or 320 acres) in size, but Story said wind gusts of up to 65 km\/h have been helping it spread rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" ,helicopters and other aircraft \u2014 when smoke conditions allow \u2014 are being used to fight the fire, said Story.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tSmoky skies in Carstairs on Thursday, believed to be caused by the fire that is burning about 80 kilometres to the northwest.\t\t\t\t <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGlobal News\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>There have also been numerous reports from people living in communities as
