MacDonald, NDMNRF)<\/p>\n<p>Invasive species can present a challenge for protecting and managing local waterways, a challenge that Parks Canada plans to address in partnership with local agencies.<\/p>\n<p>During a Thursday meeting, Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette spoke to Parks Canada officials, regarding plans to mitigate the invasive plant species Water Soldier in the Trent Severn Waterway.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, Malette said that invasive species don\u2019t respect jurisdictional boundaries, and could pose a threat to other waterways if left unchecked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis really is an urgent all hands on deck,\u201d said Malette. \u201cThe threat is real, and I appreciate there is a commitment to collaboration on this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officials from Parks Canada said they were working to coordinate with local conservation authorities, landowners, and other provincial agencies in a unified effort to control the invasive plant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#13; Water soldier invading the Trent-Severn Waterway.
