{"id":67135,"date":"2025-08-13T18:44:04","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T18:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/67135\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T18:44:04","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T18:44:04","slug":"one-person-suspected-of-setting-four-fires-in-capital-citys-downtown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/67135\/","title":{"rendered":"One Person Suspected of Setting Four Fires in Capital City\u2019s Downtown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/St.-johns-city-hall-crop.jpg\" class=\"header-image\" alt=\"One Person Suspected of Setting Four Fires in Capital City's Downtown\"\/>\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The RNC confirms it is investigating a series of suspicious fires in the capital city region, even as most of the northern Avalon is operating under a State of Emergency. <\/p>\n<p>RNC say within a two-hour period between 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, four brush fires occurred over an area covering a few blocks of the downtown.<\/p>\n<p>The fires occurred on Lemarchant Road and New Gower Street, one of which was behind city hall. <\/p>\n<p>RNC are commending the St. John\u2019s Regional Fire Department for its quick response. There were no injuries or structural damage as a result. <\/p>\n<p>Investigators believe one person is responsible, and they do have a suspect.<\/p>\n<p>RNC Constable James Cadigan says he can\u2019t get in to specifics because it is an active investigation, but all he can say is that the fires are suspicious in nature. <\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information is asked to contact the RNC.<\/p>\n<p>If you see a fire contact 911 immediately.
