SIUE Cougars IU Indy Notes \u2022 SIUE is 24-15-4 all-time in season openers. The Cougars tied Omaha to open the 2024 season. SIUE’s last win in a season opener was a 2-1 victory over Indiana State in 2022.<\/p>\n \u2022 This is the 18th season for Head Coach Derek Burton<\/a>, who took over the SIUE women’s soccer program when it jumped to the Division I level before the 2008 season. Burton holds a 127-125-49 record overall and has led SIUE to five Ohio Valley Conference titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances (2014, 2016, 2020, 2021 and 2022).<\/p>\n \u2022 SIUE’s 2025 fortunes rest on a balanced roster that is anchored by seniors Aleah Minehart<\/a>, Savannah DeFini<\/a>, Sydney Lane<\/a>, Macie Begley<\/a>, Allie Fishering<\/a>, Taryn Moore<\/a> and Kira Kumada<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u2022 DeFini returns as the team’s top scorer with five goals and three assists last season. Next in scoring last season was Begley and sophomore MaryClaire Imig<\/a>, both of whom scored two goals and three assists.<\/p>\n \u2022 The goalkeeper position holds three players deep led by OVC Player to Watch Sarah Bozeman<\/a>, a junior transfer from Memphis, redshirt sophomore Tacey Duncan and freshman Kristen Keller<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u2022 After Thursday’s opener, SIUE heads to Chicago for a 1 p.m. contest Sunday at Chicago State.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
