Late Thursday night, well into the early hours of the morning, the entire world had their eyes fixed on Toronto as homegrown rapper Drake launched his long-awaited \u201cICEMAN\u201d album, which resulted in a flood of reaction online. <\/p>\n

The release sparked responses from politicians, athletes, rappers, streamers and sports teams after Drake dropped a surprise total of three albums, including ICEMAN, Habibti and Maid of Honour. <\/p>\n

Fans also flocked to the CN Tower, while more than a million watched the rapper\u2019s live stream around the world. The broadcast included notable landmarks many Torontonians may recognize, including City Hall, the Brass Rail, Sotto Sotto and the University of Toronto Scarborough campus. <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a look at some of the most notable reactions online. <\/p>\n

Toronto mayor: \u2018Cro-livia Chow\u2019<\/p>\n

Mayor Olivia Chow leaned into the moment<\/a>, sharing a signed letter from Drake on Instagram which read \u201cthank you my crodi\u201d alongside \u201cCro-livia Chow\u201d and \u201cICEMAN 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re welcome iceman,\u201d Chow wrote. \u201cDrake is a big booster of our city.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her office later confirmed to CP24 that the city organized permits for overnight filming at City Hall during Easter weekend, including some scenes filmed inside the mayor\u2019s office and council chamber. One scene, in the chamber notably featured Toronto rapper Chromazz, while another one showed Drake wearing Toronto\u2019s ceremonial Chain of Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis team treated the Mayor\u2019s office with care and respect,\u201d Chow\u2019s office added.<\/p>\n

Even an X account belonging to the White House<\/a> chimed in with a post of their own along the caption \u201ciced out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sports teams and celebrities<\/p>\n

The viral album rollout also spread across the sports and entertainment industry from NBA teams, NFL teams and Olympians.<\/p>\n

The Toronto Raptors posted a photo<\/a> of Drake\u2019s courtside seats appearing frozen over with the caption: \u201cdrake froze the city.\u201d <\/p>\n

Olympic sprinter Andre De Grasse shared an Instagram post captioned \u201cfreeze the world,\u201d while NBA stars Tyrese Haliburton, Steph Curry and Bradley Beal posted reactions across their social platforms as the rollout unfolded.<\/p>\n

The NFL\u2019s Houston Texans also joined in, posting a Drake quote<\/a> aimed at critics: \u201cTo the rest of you, the non-believers, the underachievers, the tweet and deleters,\u201d followed by an image of an ice tray. <\/p>\n

Even former Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt chimed in<\/a>, posting: \u201cTo be number 1 you gotta lead the way\u201d alongside an iceman emoji.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Guy Fieri, an American media personality, posted a throwback photo<\/a> of himself and Drake captioned \u201cIceman meet Iceguy,\u201d followed by a \u201ccongrats on the new albums.\u201d<\/p>\n

Streamers, critics and online reaction<\/p>\n

Hip-hop personality DJ Akademiks revealed during his livestream that Drake personally flew him to Toronto for the rollout and pitched him on appearing in a scene tied to the CN Tower\u2019s broadcasting history.<\/p>\n

Akademiks, who has millions of followers across Instagram and X, said Drake warned him<\/a> he might \u201csee some things\u201d during the rollout that could \u201ccompromise\u201d him as a fan.<\/p>\n

Akademiks says Drake personally flew him out to Toronto for the ICEMAN rollout and even warned him he might \u201csee some things\u201d that could compromise him as a fan \ud83d\udc40\ud83e\udd89<\/p>\n

Local Toronto streamer known as Kishka also became part of the viral frenzy after hosting a listening party last night with a massive speaker outside the CN Tower. This comes following his involvement in Drake\u2019s ice-block scavenger hunt last month.<\/p>\n

The critics: \u2018Three mid projects\u2019 <\/p>\n

While the rollout was largely appreciated by many, not everyone is a fan of the music. <\/p>\n

American rapper Rick Ross took aim at Drake<\/a> on his Instagram story a few hours after the release, calling the surprise drops \u201cthree mid projects\u201d before claiming the Toronto rapper was \u201cwashed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ross, who has more than 20 million followers, decided to read a series of hate comments under a social media post, adding that \u201cit was fun while it lasted.\u201d His comments come following the pair\u2019s recent fallout and ongoing tension, which started during Drake\u2019s beef with Kendrick Lamar two years ago. <\/p>\n

The criticism also follows a noticeably different tone<\/a> Ross shared just days earlier, where he suggested that he wanted to see Drake \u201cshine\u201d and \u201cwin.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adding another level of criticism was low-cost airliner RyanAir.<\/p>\n

In a post to social media, the airline replied \u201cme when I lie\u201d to a fan post claiming Drake is \u201cthe greatest rapper of all time.\u201d <\/p>\n
