Victoria Day long weekend could be loud in Brampton before the city-wide fireworks ban, when residents were allowed to set off fireworks without a permit.<\/p>\n
But the city is urging residents not to risk fireworks fines up to $100,000<\/a>, and noise bylaw tickets that could run you $5,000.<\/p>\n Brampton\u2019s noise bylaw can apply to anything from an excessively barking dog to a stereo or musical equipment, construction machinery, parties, or any other loud activity that is a nuisance to others. Loud vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, also fall under the bylaw.<\/p>\n Here are some tips from the city to help you avoid pricey fines and be a good neighbour this Victoria Day long weekend.<\/p>\n The operation of heavy equipment, machinery or tools used in construction, drilling or demolition is not permitted between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., except until 9 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays. The city says you should call Peel Regional Police to complain about noises like screaming, shouting, swearing, insulting or obscene language, fighting or domestic violence.<\/p>\n \u201cThese activities may be criminal offences. Enforcement Officers may refer complaints about loud parties to the police,\u201d the city says.<\/p>\n Residents can file a noise complaint by calling Brampton 3-1-1, or by completing a noise reporting package online. \nPower devices, such as lawnmowers, grass trimmers, drills, sanders, grinders or similar devices, are also not permitted for use outdoors within a residential area between 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., except until 9 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays.
\nVehicle mufflers or other devices which emit loud, explosive or unreasonable noises, including modified mufflers or exhaust systems, are prohibited. Vehicles cannot operate on a roadway if the exhaust outlet exceeds 92 decibels A (dBA) while the engine is idling. That is equivalent to the sounds of a hair dryer.
\nExcessive and unnecessary motor vehicle noise, such as sounding horns, revving engines or squealing tires, is also not allowed.
\nResidents should avoid repairing, rebuilding, modifying or testing any motor vehicle, motorboat, outboard motor or recreational vehicle outdoors within a residential area between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., except until 9 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays.
\nWhen hosting a social event, avoid playing loud music, especially during late hours.<\/p>\n
