{"id":671817,"date":"2026-05-15T19:33:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T19:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/671817\/"},"modified":"2026-05-15T19:33:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T19:33:08","slug":"toronto-dog-attack-animal-captured-by-toronto-animal-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/671817\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto dog attack: Animal captured by Toronto Animal Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">An off-leash dog has been captured by Toronto Animal Services days after it killed another dog and injured a woman in an attack that was captured on video and prompted a safety warning from police. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The attack happened near Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West on Tuesday afternoon. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/65941\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/65941\/\">Police said<\/a> a larger dog, described as a brown pit bull mix, attacked a smaller dog and its owner without provocation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The owner sustained non-life-threatening injuries and the smaller dog died as a result.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On Wednesday afternoon, police announced the arrest of 40-year-old Mohamoud Abdiwa Ahmed, the owner of the larger dog.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Ahmed was charged with several offences, including criminal negligence causing bodily harm, obstruction of a peace officer, and obstructing, interrupting or interfering with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He also faces additional charges under the Dog Owners\u2019 Liability Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">CTV News previously obtained video footage of the attack. The footage appeared to show the larger dog walking ahead of its owner without a leash before charging toward the smaller dog. The smaller dog was being walked by an owner who appeared to be pushing a stroller.<\/p>\n<p>Video shows pit bull with no leash kill small dog and injure woman in Toronto Toronto police want to make the public aware of an abandoned off-leash dog that attacked a small dog and its owner.
