Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council, has responded to Jake Paul reportedly entering in talks over a super fight worth $200million.<\/p>\n
Back in December, YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul<\/a> suffered the most brutal loss of his career following his bout with former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.<\/a><\/p>\n The American influencer was knocked out in the sixth round of the fight, sustaining major injuries including to his jaw after a double fracture sidelined him for months.<\/p>\n Since then, questions have been raised about his future in the sport, with Paul himself telling Ariel Helwani that his doctor has advised him to retire due to his injuries.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI’m getting some new scans in a couple of days, of the jaw, to get an update on the healing process. We’ll see what the doctors say,” he said.<\/p>\n \u201cI think I’ll be able to get a more accurate timeframe \u2014 or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibility.<\/p>\n However, in typical Paul fashion, he later announced that he was entering talks<\/a> to fight four-weight multiple world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, offering the Mexican boxing legend a stunning $200m payday.<\/p>\n Paul told Betr<\/a>: \u201cCanelo, I have the $200 million for you \u2014 easy money. Let\u2019s make the biggest fight in boxing happen.\u201d<\/p>\n WBC President responds to Jake Paul v Canelo Alvarez<\/p>\n Much like Paul’s outing with Joshua last year, the vast difference in experience between the 29-year-old, who started boxing in 2018, and Alvarez would no doubt raise questions on which governing body would sanction the fight.<\/p>\n But, although he revealed he is yet to receive a request to do so, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman appeared to be open to letting the fight happen under their banner as he admitted he has been impressed with Paul’s rise through the sport.<\/p>\n “Well, I don\u2019t know. We don\u2019t speculate. We have not received a request for sanctioning,” Sulaiman said via Hard Rock Bet.<\/a><\/p>\n “I believe Jake Paul proved to everyone and cleaned up his legacy when he went and fought Mike Tyson and then Anthony Joshua, a former heavyweight champion. <\/p>\n “I mean, nobody now can claim that Jake Paul is fake. We\u2019ve been supporting Jake Paul since the beginning, since he was an amateur fighter. <\/p>\n “He was going to be ranked if he defeated Tommy Fury, and now to have gone out and fought Anthony Joshua \u2014 and lasted a couple of rounds \u2014 I mean, you have to give him credit. <\/p>\n “Now, to have him fight Canelo, we will see. I don\u2019t want to speculate one way or another. But it\u2019s our duty to make the best things happen for the sport.”<\/p>\n
