Langley Events Centre could play host to some fireworks on Victoria Day weekend, when Vancouver FC meet Cavalry FC to round out the CPL’s Sunday triple-header.<\/p>\n
A year ago, it seemed like spectacle ensued every time these sides met, including one wild game that ended 5-4 for the Cavs in August. Vancouver did, however, knock Cavalry out of the Canadian Championship last season, so this isn’t a fixture either side can take lightly.<\/p>\n
Vancouver have picked up a little momentum recently, collecting their first CPL win of the year two weeks ago against Pacific, and then beating Langley United in the Canadian Championship.<\/p>\n
The Pacific win was particularly emboldening for Vancouver, with Terran Campbell scoring a brace en route to a convincing win against their B.C. rivals.<\/p>\n
Now, the Eagles will look to add some more points to their ledger against a tricky opponent.<\/p>\n
Cavalry are one of three unbeaten teams in the CPL so far this year, and they’ve also won two in a row \u2014 both of them on the road. They squeezed out a win away against Supra, before beating Pacific FC 3-1 in the CanChamp.<\/p>\n
The Cavs sit second in the league heading into Matchweek 6, with a 3-2-0 record. They’ve been formidable in league play, although coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. has mentioned he wants his side to be more ruthless going forward.<\/p>\n
It’s been difficult to score against Cavalry, who have conceded just four times in six matches overall. Centre-back pairing Daan Klomp and Amer Didi\u0107 have been excellent, with goalkeeper Nathan Ingham settling in well behind them.<\/p>\n
Vancouver are looking to prove they can challenge anybody in the league; Cavalry are aiming to climb toward the top.<\/p>\n
