The future of many LIV Golf stars has become a hotter topic in recent weeks following Saudi Arabia\u2019s Public Investment Fund ending its financial backing of the league.<\/p>\n
For now, there appear to be plans to keep LIV Golf alive despite that massive financial setback. For well-known players like Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, their futures are under increased scrutiny. While DeChambeau has struggled at the 2026 majors so far, Rahm has found some success at the PGA Championship.<\/p>\n
As of Saturday\u2019s Round 3, Rahm is tied for the lead at Aronimink Golf Club at 4 under par. A win could help give LIV some positive momentum as it seeks new funding sources, especially with Rahm recently reaffirming his commitment to the league.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s what to know about Rahm\u2019s LIV Golf contract, majors history and more.<\/p>\n

He received a deal around a reported $300 million over multiple years, signed in December 2023. Per Fox Sports<\/a>, it is the largest total LIV contract over Phil Mickelson’s estimated $200 million.<\/p>\n Ahead of the 2026 PGA Championship, Rahm, still one of the faces of LIV, said he still has multiple years on his contract with the league despite its uncertain future, and he doesn’t see “many ways out” of that contract.<\/p>\n “Right now, I have several years in my contract left,” Rahm said, per ESPN<\/a>. “I’m pretty sure they did a pretty good job when they drafted that, so I don’t see many ways out. Right now, I’m not really thinking about it because we still have a season to play and majors to compete for. It’s not something I want to think about just yet.”<\/p>\n Rahm also said during that press conference that he\u00a0has settled his dispute with the DP World Tour\u00a0over unpaid fines for playing in conflicting events without a release.<\/p>\n As a\u00a0a two-time defending LIV Golf individual champion, also leading the league in\u00a0points this season with two victories and three runner-up finishes, Rahm is one of the more notable players whose future could be impacted if LIV is forced to shut down. He said he had been told\u00a0there would be PIF funding for the league for “many years.”<\/p>\n “Honestly, I think the initial news and the rumors over there in Mexico, since we’re in a tournament week, I almost just tried to act as if it was just rumors,” Rahm said, per ESPN<\/a>. “Because we’re competing, I didn’t want to waste any energy on an already demanding week thinking about it.<\/p>\n “For me, the reality kind of came afterwards. I would say, like everybody, [I was] surprised. Obviously, [it was] unexpected. We did hear the news that there would be funding for many years. But then as the future of the league goes, I think that’s obviously a question for the businesspeople.”<\/p>\n While Rahm said he and players like Tyrrell Hatton “want to be” with LIV, his future will remain under the microscope depending how the league’s funding situation resolves. Not only has he remained committed to LIV Golf amid recent questions, but even if he were able to get out of that contract, the PGA Tour only welcomed back LIV players like Brooks Koepka earlier in 2026 through a temporary \u201cReturning Members\u201d program.<\/p>\n The \u201cReturning Members\u201d program was considered a one-time affair, allowing eligible players a chance to return to the PGA Tour before the Feb. 2 deadline. Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith were among those eligible, but all three \u2014 Rahm, DeChambeau and Smith \u2014 declined the invitation.<\/p>\n “I’m not planning on going anywhere,” Rahm said, per ESPN<\/a>. “[A] very similar answer to what Bryson gave. I wish Brooks the best. As far as I’m concerned, I’m focused on the league and my team this year, and hopefully we can repeat as champions again.”<\/p>\n The “Returning Member” program\u00a0was open to players who had previously been on the PGA Tour, but been away for at least two years, and who have won the Players Championship or one of the four majors (the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and Open Championship) since 2022. If they did choose to return, it would come under particular conditions with drastic financial penalties.<\/p>\n Some of those conditions for Koepka included a $5 million contribution to charity at the PGA Tour’s request and agreeing to forfeit any player equity shares for the next five years. He also won’t be eligible to receive any money from the $100 million FedEx Cup bonus program in 2026.<\/p>\n Jon Rahm history at majors<\/p>\n Jon Rahm is a two-time major winner, having emerged victorious at the 2021 U.S. Open and the 2023 Masters.<\/p>\n He has been a regular contender in majors over the last seven years, owning four other top-10 finishes at the Masters, two top-10 finishes at the PGA Championship, three other top-10 finishes at the U.S. Open and four top-10 finishes at the Open Championship.<\/p>\n Rahm was the first Spanish golfer to win the U.S. Open in 2021. It was after his 2023 Masters win that he joined LIV Golf in December 2023, becoming the latest star to leave the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n
