two Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation\u00a0fundraising\u00a0events this summer\u00a0at the\u00a0Southampton Coliseum\u00a0will result in more donor dollars\u00a0going\u00a0directly to\u00a0local Murray\u00a0\u201crespectfully\u201d\u00a0asked Council to waive the fees\u00a0at its May 11 meeting\u00a0as she\u00a0detailed\u00a0plans to use the\u00a0Southampton Coliseum for the June 27 Bruce County Bash, and August 12 Grand Fondo Lake Huron,\u00a0which is expected to draw 1,000 riders of all ages and abilities\u00a0to Southampton.<br \/>\u201cWe feature our waterfront, our scenic countryside,\u00a0our volunteers and our big, bold Bruce County spirit\u2026\u201d Murray said adding this\u00a0year\u2019s\u00a0Gran Fondo goal is\u00a0$500,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Article hotels,\u00a0restaurants\u00a0and shops.<br \/>\u201cBeyond\u00a0tourism and economic impact, the heart of the Gran\u00a0Fondo is\u00a0of course\u00a0healthcare,\u201d Murray said, noting in eight years the event has raised over $2 million for local\u00a0healthcare including\u00a0funding for\u00a0critical\u00a0tomography and\u00a0mammography\u00a0equipment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery rider who takes part (is) helping to strengthen healthcare close to home and 100 percent of rider-raised funds goes directly to supporting equipment needs,\u201d Murray said, adding the event is powered by an \u201cincredible\u201d group of donors, sponsors and partners like the Town with a shared goal of improving local healthcare.<br \/>Murray said\u00a0waiving\u00a0the\u00a0rental\u00a0fees would \u201callow even more\u00a0fundraising\u00a0to\u00a0stay\u00a0focused\u00a0on what matters most\u00a0\u2013\u00a0supporting\u00a0local\u00a0health\u00a0care\u00a0\u2013 and already considered and approved the fee waiver request.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myette supported the waiver and asked what percentage of funds raised by the Foundation\u2019s events\u00a0benefit\u00a0Saugeen Memorial Hospital in\u00a0Southampton.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Murray said giving a percentage is difficult, but\u00a0they have \u201copenly each year determined where the funds will go and have had riders fundraise for specific things like the CT scanner\u2026\u201d she said, adding that funding is based on what and where the need is each year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Mayor Diane Huber said she was \u201cglad\u201d to hear the Foundation waiver was covered as there is\u00a0approximately\u00a0$2,500 in a\u00a0Town donation fund, including fee waivers,\u00a0and asked if the Town process should encourage organizations to make requests\u00a0to be part of the council budgeting process.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jim\u00a0Bundschuh,\u00a0the director of Corporate\u00a0Services,\u00a0said the community donation policy includes a mailout in June to community organizations to\u00a0remind them to\u00a0make\u00a0submissions\u00a0to the Town by September.<br \/>Mayor Luke Charbonneau thanked the Foundation for its work to raise a \u201cwhole lot\u201d of money for the hospital in a way that\u2019s \u201ctons of fun and makes
