Many stores, public markets and tourist attractions will remain open in Montreal Monday for National Patriots\u2019 Day \u2014 known elsewhere in Canada as Victoria Day, though banks, government offices and some transit services will operate on reduced schedules or close altogether.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s a rundown of what to expect in Montreal on Monday, May 18.<\/p>\n
Commerce<\/p>\n
Many stores and shopping malls will be open, including the Eaton Centre and Complexe Desjardins.<\/p>\n
The Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des alcools du Qu\u00e9bec (SAQ) and Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise du cannabis (SQDC) stores will be open. Hours may vary by location.<\/p>\n
Public markets including the Atwater, Maisonneuve and Jean-Talon markets will be open.<\/p>\n
Government services<\/p>\n
Banks, other financial institutions and government offices will be closed.<\/p>\n
Municipal offices will be closed. Montreal\u2019s 311 phone line will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This includes the city\u2019s municipal court (775 Gosford St).<\/p>\n
Garbage, recycling and compost services will be unaffected, with waste pickup services keeping to their usual schedules. Ecocentres will be open.<\/p>\n
Canada Post offices will be closed, but privately run locations may be open, according to the schedule of the host business.<\/p>\n
Culture and leisure<\/p>\n
The Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium, Biod\u00f4me, Botanical Garden, Insectarium and Biosph\u00e8re will all be open.<\/p>\n
Montreal arenas, swimming pools, sports centres, gyms, libraries and cultural venues have their schedules set by the local borough.<\/p>\n
