From the moment it first began 25 years ago, the WAVE Interlake Artists Studio Tour has been a hit with art lovers from Gimli to Winnipeg Beach to St. Andrews and beyond.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve always got tons and tons of people coming out,\u201d says potter Alan Lacovetsky, who has been\u00a0on\u00a0the tour since its second year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The key to the tour\u2019s success has\u00a0not only been its popularity with the communities that host it, but also the community of artists that have created such a wide range of pieces to enjoy. \u201cThe reason that I joined the tour was because I wanted to connect with other local artists,\u201d shares glass artist Heather Dawson. \u201cThe friendships that\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0created over the last eight years have been incredible.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Now, that community has come to downtown Winnipeg as the 210 Gallery on Princess Street in an exhibition called\u00a0WAVE Action: 25 Years in Motion.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Regional diversity on display\u00a0<\/p>\n
The distance between the communities means that the art both shown on the tour and on display at WAVE Action have an array of inspirations and\u00a0mediums. \u201cThe Interlake is such a diverse region because you\u2019ve got lakes on either side of an expanse area where you have fields and you have forests,\u201d explains\u00a0Dawson.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI just look out my studio window and get all the inspiration and influence that I could ever use,\u201d\u00a0adds Lacovetsky.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0connections that the tour allows across the region means that artists have another source of inspiration to tap into: each other. \u201cPreviously, I hadn\u2019t really given\u00a0myself\u00a0permission to explore other mediums,\u201d Dawson says. \u201cI was inside my box of glasswork and that was the only thing I was allowed to do, and then Alan actually gave me the permission to try using clay and creating different molds, so that\u2019s kind of what I\u2019ve been dabbling in lately.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Clay, glass, pottery and more have now come together at WAVE Action in a rare collection of\u00a0works.\u00a0Dawson has enjoyed the interactions that she has had with Winnipeggers who may not be familiar with what creative living is like in her part of the province.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing able to share a little piece of the Interlake or a little piece of nature and being able to have people in Winnipeg or around the world\u00a0be able to share in that piece of nature that I\u2019m enjoying right at my back door, it\u2019s really special to me,\u201d says Dawson.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the conversations that I had with the people that were there weren\u2019t necessarily all entirely about my art,\u201d she\u00a0says as she describes how the artistic community has supported each other during the exhibition, \u201cand that\u2019s something that I really enjoy about this group is the community and being able to share in the joy of other people\u2019s artwork.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
