{"id":676129,"date":"2026-05-17T19:58:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T19:58:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/676129\/"},"modified":"2026-05-17T19:58:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T19:58:17","slug":"toronto-blue-jays-vladimir-guerrero-jr-hits-first-home-run-since-april-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/676129\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto Blue Jays\u2019 Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hits first home run since April 20"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/toronto-blue-jays\/238\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/toronto-blue-jays\/238\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> star slugger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/vladimir-guerrero-jr\/920245\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/vladimir-guerrero-jr\/920245\" target=\"_blank\">Vladimir Guerrero Jr.<\/a> hit his first home run in nearly a month Sunday afternoon with his third of the season in the first inning against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/detroit-tigers\/230\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/team-page\/detroit-tigers\/230\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Tigers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Hitting in the No. 2 spot for the first time this year and facing right-hander <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/jack-flaherty\/828681\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/mlb\/player\/jack-flaherty\/828681\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Flaherty<\/a>, Guerrero pulled his hands in and turned on an inside fastball, lining it over the left field wall to give the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It was also Guerrero\u2019s first extra-base hit of the month of May and just his 10th extra-base knock of the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Guerrero came into Sunday\u2019s series-finale at Comerica Park slashing .288\/.378\/.369 with two home runs and 19 RBI, but had been struggling of late.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">After going 0-for-4 in Saturday\u2019s narrow 2-1 win, Guerrero said through an interpreter that he had not been feeling comfortable at the plate recently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cObviously, I don\u2019t feel okay right now. I\u2019m not feeling right and you guys can tell that. I\u2019ve been working very hard,\u201d Guerrero said via MLB.com\u2019s Keegan Matheson.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (via interpreter):<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, I don\u2019t feel OK right now. I\u2019m not feeling right and you guys can tell that. I\u2019ve been working very hard.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just looking to hit one ball very hard. It will stay in my head and my mind.
