\u201cWe\u2019re off next week \u2014 back on May 31 \u2014 please enjoy Colbert\u2019s final shows,\u201d Oliver urged his audience<\/a> during an episode that focused on the tactics of factoring companies and structured settlements. (See that main segment below).<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s the fucking best,\u201d the comedian declared of his onetime \u201cDaily Show\u201d collaborator.<\/p>\n Then Oliver, a frequent guest on Colbert\u2019s program, added: \u201cGood night, and good luck, motherfuckers.\u201d<\/p>\n The sign-off echoed a moment last week<\/a> when former \u201cLate Show\u201d host David Letterman joined outgoing host Colbert to toss CBS-owned furniture off the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater, the show\u2019s home.<\/p>\n Colbert asked Letterman if he had a message for viewers.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, not necessarily to the audience, but to the folks at CBS,\u201d replied Letterman, who has been a fierce critic<\/a> of the network\u2019s decision to cancel Colbert\u2019s show, which will air for the final time this Thursday.<\/p>\n Then Letterman said: \u201cIn the words of the great Edward R. Murrow: good night and good luck, motherfuckers.\u201d<\/p>\n CBS cited financial reasons when it announced in late July that it was canceling \u201cThe Late Show.\u201d<\/p>\n But the timing raised eyebrows as Paramount Global was at that time seeking and later received Trump administration approval for its merger with Skydance.<\/p>\n
