Quebec can help France<\/a> in \u201cmany areas,\u201d such as \u201cresearch,\u201d \u201cAI\u201d or even \u201cstrategy,\u201d according to French President Emmanuel Macron.<\/p>\n

These were the few words he addressed to the press when he welcomed the premier of Quebec, Christine Fr\u00e9chette<\/a>, to the \u00c9lys\u00e9e Palace on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuebec is always welcome,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

A few minutes earlier, Fr\u00e9chette met with French Prime Minister S\u00e9bastien Lecornu at Matignon.<\/p>\n

This meeting also provided an opportunity for Investissement Qu\u00e9bec to renew a reciprocal agreement with Business France. This agreement aims to support Quebec companies in France and French companies in Quebec.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Monday, Fr\u00e9chette championed Quebec as a \u201ctrusted partner\u201d for France and Europe in the critical and strategic minerals<\/a> sector, while participating in a roundtable discussion with representatives of the French government and economic stakeholders. The event was held at the Quebec delegation in Paris.<\/p>\n

The premier touted Quebec\u2019s \u201cgreat assets\u201d in terms of critical minerals.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst, we have the resources in Quebec soil. So, a very important element: we have the largest share of critical and strategic minerals in Canada. A good portion of them. We have 28 in total,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p>\n

The premier stated that she wanted to develop this sector in a \u201csustainable\u201d and \u201cresponsible\u201d way, highlighting Quebec\u2019s clean energy.<\/p>\n

With Europe planning to invest 800 billion euros to rearm, the government hopes that Quebec will come out on top and obtain its share of defence contracts.<\/p>\n

According to Fr\u00e9chette, strategic minerals have \u201cstrategic importance\u201d in an \u201cera marked by geopolitical upheaval.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in a period where spending related to defence and critical and strategic minerals will increase. This is the case here in Europe, but it is also the case in Canada, with a desire to raise the contribution to the NATO budget up to five per cent. So, this will result in colossal spending related to defence,\u201d the premier explained.<\/p>\n

The minister of international relations and la Francophonie, Christopher Skeete, and the delegate general of Quebec in Paris, Henri-Paul Rousseau, were also present at this roundtable.<\/p>\n

This is Fr\u00e9chette\u2019s second mission abroad. She visited Washington a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n

The premier is in Paris until May 20.<\/p>\n
