Reims to host 2028 Tour de France Grand D\u00e9part<\/p>\n

The 2028 edition of the men\u2019s Tour de France<\/a> will begin in Reims in northeastern France \u2013\u00a0its first time hosting the start of the Tour since 1956. There will be four stages in the Grand Est region as part of the Grand D\u00e9part, with the peloton riding through the six cities of Charleville-M\u00e9zi\u00e8res, \u00c9pernay, Metz, Reims, Thionville and Verdun. Given Reims location in France\u2019s Champagne region, there is a chance this may set the route up to include a gravel stage.<\/p>\n

The 2028 Tour will begin earlier than usual with the opening stage on Saturday 24th June to make space for the Los Angeles Olympics, with the Tour finishing on 16th July and the Olympic road cycling events taking place on the 19th and 23rd July. <\/p>\n

Afonso Eul\u00e1lio leads on second rest day<\/p>\n

Afonso Eul\u00e1lio (Bahrain Victorious) remains in the maglia rosa at the Giro d\u2019Italia<\/a> on the second rest day, having ridden his way into the lead with a second place from the breakaway on Stage 5. <\/p>\n

Jonas Vingegaard<\/a> (Visma-Lease a Bike) has been slowly closing the gap on the big summit finishes, however several strong showings from Eul\u00e1lio have kept Vingegaard 2min 24sec down going into the time-trial.<\/p>\n

Vingegaard is riding as expected in his debut Giro, completing his Grand Tour stage win set on Stage 7 with victory on Blockhaus<\/a> and steadily climbing the rankings to sit second overall.<\/p>\n

His biggest challenger to emerge so far has been Decathlon CMA CGM’s Felix Gall. The Austrian sits third overall and has comfortably been the closest rider to Vingegaard on the climbs, with his team even taking control of the race themselves on Sunday’s stage to Corne Alle Scale. He doesn’t have the best record in time-trials, so he’s expected to lose time to most of his rivals on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s going on with Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe?<\/p>\n

Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe entered the race with Giulio Pellizzari and Jai Hindley as co-leaders having ridden to sixth and fourth respectively at last year’s Vuelta. Pellizzari arrived in good form having won the Tour of the Alps last month and was aiming to improve on his sixth place from last season alongside 2022 winner Hindley.<\/p>\n

After initially following Vingegaard’s attack on Blockhaus, Pellizzari slid back to finish fourth, just behind Hindley, and he continued to struggle on Corne Alle Scale, now sitting ninth on GC and over five minutes down on pink jersey Eul\u00e1lio. Hindley meanwhile is in fourth, 4min 32sec down, and is proving to be the better option of the two. The team previously stated the road would decide which of the pair would lead the team as the race went on, so will we see Pellizzari working for Hindley or will they continue to ride their own races?<\/p>\n

Mischa Bredewold wins first stage race<\/p>\n

Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx-Protime) secured the first stage race victory of her career at Itzulia Women. The Dutchwoman, who finished second to Demi Vollering in both 2024 and 2025, won Stage 1 in a small group sprint and managed to hold on to the lead over the following two stages to take the overall victory by 21 seconds over Yara Kastelijn (Fenix-Premier Tech) and FDJ United-Suez’s Lauren Dickson. A year ago Scottish rider Dickson was winning the Lincoln GP, but after signing with FDJ over the winter is going from strength to strength, bookending Itzulia with top fives for her best result to date.<\/p>\n

Dominika W\u0142odarczyk (UAE Team ADQ) also shone throughout the race, claiming back-to-back victories but finishing ninth overall having lost time on the first day and getting a 20-second deduction on the third stage.<\/p>\n

Young Brits keep winning<\/p>\n

Cat Ferguson beat Liv AlUla Jayco’s Ruby Roseman-Gannon in the sprint to defend her title at the Navarra Women\u2019s Classic, becoming the most successful rider in the race\u2019s six-year history. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile Matthew Brennan dominated Fl\u00e8che du Sud, winning three of the five stages in Luxembourg and the points classification.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Welcome back to another edition of\u00a0Pro Log.
