Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating after human remains were found near Pelican Narrows, a community that’s part of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, located about 420 kilometres north of Saskatoon, last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police have identified the remains as belonging to 16-year-old Jay’siiah Webb-Long, who went missing last May after travelling to the northern remote community from Brampton, Ont.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Officers located Webb-Long on May 13, during a planned search near Pelican Narrows, according to a Monday news release from RCMP. An autopsy was carried out two days later.\u00a0<\/p>\n
RCMP are treating Webb-Long’s death as a homicide and are continuing to investigate.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A missing persons report was originally filed in April 2025 by Webb-Long’s family with the Peel Regional Police.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit took over the investigation in July 2025. <\/p>\n
Investigators found Webb-Long left Ontario in March, before coming to Saskatchewan.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police were able to track down the address where they believe Webb-Long had been living in Pelican Narrows. But when they went there, they were told the teen had evacuated the area due to wildfires.\u00a0<\/p>\n
RCMP deemed the case as suspicious.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Shenice Long said she was shocked to learn in June that Peel police had tracked her son to Pelican Narrows.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“To this day he has never told me,” she told CBC last September. “I heard of Saskatchewan, but \u2026 I don’t have family there. I don’t know anyone there.” \u00a0<\/p>\n
Webb-Long’s family has not stopped working to spread his missing persons poster across social media platforms since his disappearance. <\/p>\n
