Warriors star Draymond Green calls early NBA MVP leak ’embarrassing’ for league<\/a> originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area<\/a><\/p>\n

The \u201cNBA on Prime Video\u201d broadcast announced Sunday night<\/a> that Oklahoma City Thunder<\/a> star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander<\/a> had won his second consecutive MVP award \u2013 the only problem was ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania had made the announcement<\/a> almost 12 hours prior.<\/p>\n

Many in the basketball world, from tv personalities to players, had thoughts on the situation, with Warriors<\/a> star forward Draymond Green<\/a> being one of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the NBA has to do something about that,\u201d Green said on the latest episode of \u201cThe Draymond Green Show.\u201d<\/a> \u201cLike, ultimately, you\u2019re the NBA. You control the media. Shams is an NBA reporter with ESPN, who is a partner of the NBA. To tweet at six o\u2019clock in the morning who the NBA MVP is, it\u2019s actually embarrassing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought that was pretty pathetic, if I\u2019m being honest,\u201d Green added.<\/p>\n

While some were upset, Charania joined \u201cThe Pat McAfee Show\u201d<\/a> and defended his actions, explaining that he believed he had a responsibility to report the news \u2013 even if it comes before a scheduled release.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a massive story,\u201d Charania said. \u201cAnd when I get it, I vet it. And then my job is to report the news. And so that\u2019s all I focus on. That\u2019s what I wake up thinking about. That\u2019s what I go to sleep thinking about.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Green had a different belief when it came to the premature release of the news.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes our league look like we have no organization,\u201d Green said. \u201c\u2026 Like we can\u2019t hold the winner of the most prestigious individual award in the NBA, we can\u2019t hold those results until it\u2019s actually time to be announced. That was a little disappointing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no way that can happen. If there\u2019s supposed to be an announcement on Amazon Prime, the announcement has to happen on Amazon Prime. This is something Commissioner [Adam] Silver has to do something about. This this can\u2019t happen.\u201d<\/p>\n
