Precipitation totals are stacking up across the province after a wet May long weekend.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), areas east of Regina were hit the hardest, with some communities receiving up to 32 millimetres of precipitation.

“It’s not uncommon,” Dan Fulton, a meteorologist with ECCC, told CBC News Monday morning.

Fulton said the May long weekend is often a hit or miss on the Prairies where “it can be beautiful and hot or you can have snow.”

Precipitation totals varied across Saskatchewan, with some areas getting hit with snow Monday morning.

Areas near Fort Qu’Appelle saw roughly 11 centimetres of snowfall on Monday, while Moose Mountain recorded between 10 and 11 centimetres, he said.

Fulton said Yorkton received about seven centimetres and Moose Jaw reported around four centimetres.

In places where snow fell over the weekend and into Monday, Fulton said much of it has melted. He noted there was some flooding, but areas of concern “didn’t bear the brunt of this storm.”

Fulton said Saskatchewan will continue to see below-normal temperatures through the week and scattered showers.

He pointed to next weekend, when temperatures should build their way back up to the double-digits.

As for more snow this spring?

“If I was betting, man, I’d bet that that’s it for the year, ” he said.

Listen to this article Estimated 2 minutes The audio version of this article is generated by AI-based technology.…

[22
49,48,295,66
post-679068","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-environment","tag-science
["GET
