{"id":680372,"date":"2026-05-19T20:32:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T20:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/680372\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T20:32:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T20:32:08","slug":"hantavirus-stricken-cruise-ship-docks-in-the-netherlands-for-disinfection-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/680372\/","title":{"rendered":"Hantavirus-stricken\u00a0cruise\u00a0ship docks in the Netherlands for disinfection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The port was asked by Dutch authorities last week if they could take in the vessel. \u201cI think it\u2019s unacceptable to say no, you\u2019re not welcome in the biggest port of Europe,\u201d the port\u2019s harbormaster, Ren\u00e9 de Vries, told the AP.<\/p>\n<p>Some two dozen passengers and crew are already in quarantine in the Netherlands after arriving in the country on a series of flights over the previous two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The outbreak on the ship has reached at least 11 cases, nine of which have been confirmed by the World Health Organization.<\/p>\n<p>Three passengers have died, including a Dutch couple who health officials believe were the first exposed to the virus while visiting South America.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Health Agency of Canada said one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelweek.ca\/news\/cruise\/four-canadians-on-cruise-ship-hit-by-suspected-hantavirus-outbreak\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">four Canadians<\/a> in isolation after leaving the ship had tested positive Sunday and that it would share information on the case with the World Health Organization.<\/p>\n<p>Eighteen Americans are currently under observation at specialized healthcare facilities in the United States designed to treat people with dangerous infectious diseases.<\/p>\n<p>The Paris public hospital authority said Monday that the French\u00a0cruise\u00a0passenger being treated for hantavirus is not in fact treated with an artificial lung, but remains in intensive care.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, an official at Bichat Hospital told reporters that the patient was on a life-support system that pumps blood through an artificial lung.
