ESPN NBA<\/a> insider Shams Charania did a no-no this past weekend when he announced that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander<\/a> secured his second straight MVP award. Charania promptly took flak for announcing it before the league and now Draymond Green<\/a> is raking him over the coals.<\/p>\n

On the latest episode of his podcast, Green admonished Charania for leaking the info but also criticized the NBA for allowing Charania to do so. He pointed out that Charania works closely with the NBA itself, so they must have had a role in him breaking that story. Green also remarked that it undermines the NBA’s partnership with Amazon, where the announcement was supposed to be made originally.<\/p>\n

\u201cListen, I think the NBA has to do something about that,\u201d Green said on his podcast. \u201cUltimately, you\u2019re the NBA. You control the media. Shams is an NBA reporter with ESPN, who\u2019s a partner of the NBA. To tweet at six o\u2019clock in the morning who the NBA MVP is, it\u2019s actually embarrassing. It makes our league look like we have no organization. It makes our league look like\u2026 That\u2019s child\u2019s play. We can\u2019t hold the winner of the most prestigious individual award in the NBA; we can\u2019t hold those results until it\u2019s actually time to be announced?<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was a little disappointing. There\u2019s no way that can happen. If there\u2019s supposed to be an announcement on Amazon Prime, the announcement has to happen on Amazon Prime. This is something Commissioner Silver has to do something about. This can\u2019t happen. Come on. You leak it on Twitter? It also can\u2019t be that important to leak information. Come on. I thought that was pretty pathetic, if I\u2019m being honest. The NBA has to do something. That can\u2019t be the case. The MVP gets leaked at six o\u2019clock in the morning.\u201d<\/p>\n

“What are we doing?”<\/p>\n

Green continued, remarking that Charania’s leak was “embarrassing” and that the NBA should really try to be more professional than allowing something like that to happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually thought it was fake, because I saw somebody else tweet it,\u201d Green explained. \u201cI had to start searching\u2026 and then go on Instagram, and, like, oh, no, it\u2019s true\u2026. Come on. Something has to be done. That cannot happen. The leak of the NBA MVP.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are we doing?\u201d Green added. \u201cIt would be one thing if it\u2019s not a prominent reporter in the NBA. But, like, it\u2019s Shams. Shams has to be in partnership with the NBA to be as prominent as he is. That can\u2019t happen. I thought that was embarrassing.\u201d<\/p>\n

NBA fans largely agreed, but some argued that it isn’t the NBA’s fault, it’s simply a by-product of modern day media and reporting.<\/p>\n

“That idiot a plant & is all about who gets it out 1st… immature. Woj will always be missed,” one user wrote on X.<\/p>\n

“I agree with Draymond about something? Wtf\u2026 lol and I appreciate that he put this on the league not Shams bc Shams was doing his job,” another remarked.<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s not necessarily the NBA. That\u2019s what media\/reporting has become,” wrote a third.<\/p>\n
