{"id":681008,"date":"2026-05-20T02:57:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T02:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/681008\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T02:57:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T02:57:09","slug":"mens-golf-advances-to-ncaa-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/681008\/","title":{"rendered":"Men&#8217;s Golf Advances To NCAA Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/goheels.com\/sports\/mens-golf\/roster\/carson-bertagnole\/27350\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"27350\" target=\"_blank\">Carson Bertagnole<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/goheels.com\/sports\/mens-golf\/roster\/andrew-riley\/27353\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"27353\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Riley<\/a> combined to shoot 10 under par in the second and third rounds Tuesday to lead the North Carolina men&#8217;s golf team to fourth place in the NCAA Bryan Regional at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nBy virtue of its top-five finish, Carolina advanced to the NCAA Championship, which begins May 29 at the Omni La Costa Resort &amp; Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nNinth-ranked Carolina (10-under 278, 4-under 284, 5-under 283), the No. 2 seed in the regional, placed fourth out of 14 teams at 19-under 845.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nFourth-ranked and top-seeded Texas won the regional at 45 under par. Host Texas A&amp;M was second at 40 under, Chattanooga was third (-23), the Tar Heels placed fourth and Tennessee grabbed the final spot in the NCAA Championship at 18 under.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nTCU (-13) and Colorado (-11) were the first two teams to miss the cut.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThis is the eighth time in the last nine postseasons the Tar Heels have advanced from a regional to the NCAA Championship.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe second and third rounds in the Bryan Regional were both played on Tuesday due to a forecast of inclement weather on Wednesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBertagnole (67-70-69) shot 2-under-par 70 in the morning and a bogey-free 69 in the final round to tie for fifth place at 10-under 206. His 10-under-par total tied the fourth-best score to par by a Tar Heel in an NCAA regional and his fifth-place performance is the best by a Tar Heel freshman in a regional since Ryan Burnett was the runner-up in Stanford in 2019.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nRiley (70-71-68) joined Bertagnole as the only Tar Heels to shoot below par in all three rounds. His 68 in the afternoon was Carolina&#8217;s best result in the final round.
