Carson Bertagnole<\/a> and Andrew Riley<\/a> combined to shoot 10 under par in the second and third rounds Tuesday to lead the North Carolina men’s golf team to fourth place in the NCAA Bryan Regional at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.

\nBy virtue of its top-five finish, Carolina advanced to the NCAA Championship, which begins May 29 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

\nNinth-ranked Carolina (10-under 278, 4-under 284, 5-under 283), the No. 2 seed in the regional, placed fourth out of 14 teams at 19-under 845.

\nFourth-ranked and top-seeded Texas won the regional at 45 under par. Host Texas A&M was second at 40 under, Chattanooga was third (-23), the Tar Heels placed fourth and Tennessee grabbed the final spot in the NCAA Championship at 18 under.

\nTCU (-13) and Colorado (-11) were the first two teams to miss the cut.
\n\u00a0
\nThis is the eighth time in the last nine postseasons the Tar Heels have advanced from a regional to the NCAA Championship.

\nThe second and third rounds in the Bryan Regional were both played on Tuesday due to a forecast of inclement weather on Wednesday.

\nBertagnole (67-70-69) shot 2-under-par 70 in the morning and a bogey-free 69 in the final round to tie for fifth place at 10-under 206. His 10-under-par total tied the fourth-best score to par by a Tar Heel in an NCAA regional and his fifth-place performance is the best by a Tar Heel freshman in a regional since Ryan Burnett was the runner-up in Stanford in 2019.

\nRiley (70-71-68) joined Bertagnole as the only Tar Heels to shoot below par in all three rounds. His 68 in the afternoon was Carolina’s best result in the final round. He tied for 11th place, his best finish in the spring.

\nGrant Roscich<\/a> (70-74-69) led UNC with 16 birdies in the regional and tied for 21st at 3-under 213, the sixth time in the last seven tournaments he finished in red figures.

\nNiall Sheils Donegan<\/a> missed round one with for medical reasons but re-entered the lineup for round two and shot 2-under 70.

\nTexas’ Luke Potter (67-64-68) was the medalist at 19-under 199.
