{"id":681247,"date":"2026-05-20T05:43:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T05:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/681247\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T05:43:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T05:43:13","slug":"consultations-with-sask-producers-an-opportunity-for-collaboration-says-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/681247\/","title":{"rendered":"Consultations with Sask. producers \u2018an opportunity\u2019 for collaboration, says minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canada\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/agriculture\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">agriculture<\/a> minister says he had a good conversation with a group of Saskatchewan agriculture stakeholders Tuesday, as he continues consultation with stakeholders from across the country on the government\u2019s framework for future agriculture policies.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Minister Heath MacDonald says sitting down with industry leaders, including directors of research councils, producer associations and university deans, presents an opportunity on the research side of future policymaking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message that I received in there was that we need more collaboration between the federal, provincial, private sector and public. And it goes everywhere from investment to streamlining and data,\u201d MacDonald told reporters Tuesday following the meeting at the University of Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting, which was closed to the media, is among a series of other consultations between the minister and industry stakeholders that will help inform the development of the Next Policy Framework (NPF).<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>This is set to replace the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership \u2014 a five-year program that sets out strategic initiatives between the federal and provincial governments, set to end in 2028.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/national.jpg\" alt=\"Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you'll never miss the day's top stories.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet daily National news<\/p>\n<p>Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you&#8217;ll never miss the day&#8217;s top stories.<\/p>\n<p>The NPF is expected to serve as the main agreement among federal, provincial and territorial governments, guiding future investments in programming to support the agriculture sector. It is expected to also be a five-year agreement, set to end in 2033.<\/p>\n<p>MacDonald also says that stakeholders indicated they want to see regulatory impediments removed and remains optimistic about research opportunities in the province.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Canada<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there\u2019s a real opportunity in the research side coming out of this.
