Record champion Dominique Mayho will return to the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race on Friday [May 22] after a two-year absence.<\/p>\n

Mayho, a six-time winner, missed the 2024 race because of overseas commitments and last year competed in the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby for the first time.<\/p>\n

He said he is approaching this year\u2019s race with a different mindset and tipped VT Construction team-mate Jackson Langley as the favourite.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve rediscovered my love for cycling,\u201d Mayho told Bernews.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t get out as much as I\u2019d like to as I have a one-year-old [Mason], who keeps me busy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve tried to do all the local races this year and I\u2019m having fun.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes a bit longer to get fit these days. I don\u2019t train as much as I\u2019d like, but I still have a decent sprint.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m feeling good for Friday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayho, who has represented Bermuda at the Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games, described the race the highlight of the local cycling calendar.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a special race,\u201d he said. \u201cI always wanted to win it as a junior and then I stepped up to the elite race.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven when I was overseas racing, I\u2019d try and watch the live stream.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love being part of it. There\u2019s no race like it in Bermuda. It feels great coming through Front Street at the finish.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old said he was pleased to see younger riders making an impact in local racing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s all juniors these days \u2013 it\u2019s crazy,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cJackson Langley is the strongest rider on the island. Luckily, he\u2019s my team-mate. I hope he can break away and take it \u2013 I\u2019d like him to win.<\/p>\n

\u201cDylan Eiselt has also been beating me this year \u2013 it\u2019s not fun losing to these juniors!<\/p>\n

\u201cJacob Wright and Ollie Hayward are coming back from boarding school.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt should be a fun race to watch. Hopefully, me, Jackson and Jacob can come up with a plan and execute it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI try to help them as much as I can in terms of race tactics and avoiding the mistakes I made.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope I help develop them in some way. They seem to listen to me at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
