A Brampton man is facing multiple charges after police say gas was stolen from a station in Dufferin County, an attendant was struck by a fleeing vehicle and a suspect was chased into a forested area.<\/p>\n
According to Ontario Provincial Police, the incident began on May 13 at approximately 2:44 p.m. at a Pioneer gas station in the Village of Mansfield, 60 km north of Brampton.<\/p>\n
Investigators say a man driving a black Ford SUV with a camper trailer attached attempted to leave the station without paying for fuel. During the theft, the gas station attendant tried to intervene and was struck by the vehicle as the suspect fled the scene.<\/p>\n
The attendant suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre for treatment. Police say the victim remains in hospital in stable condition.<\/p>\n
Officers later determined the SUV was displaying stolen licence plate 233 DST, while the attached camper trailer had stolen plate 521 DTB.<\/p>\n
Police say the suspect managed to evade capture until the following day, when members of the OPP\u2019s Nipigon detachment located the vehicle and trailer connected to the incident.<\/p>\n
Investigators say officers deployed a spike belt in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the suspect fled again before running into a wooded area.<\/p>\n
After what police described as an extensive search, officers located the suspect and took him into custody.<\/p>\n
Police have arrested 53-year-old Darbara Singh Mann of Brampton.<\/p>\n
He has been charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, theft, dangerous operation causing bodily harm and failing to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm.<\/p>\n
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the suspect vehicle or may have dash camera or surveillance footage to contact Dufferin OPP at 1-888-310-1122.<\/p>\n
