Mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Nate Diaz suffered a brutal doctor stoppage loss<\/a> to BKFC star Mike Perry in the co-main event of MVP MMA 1: \u201cRousey vs. Carano\u201d<\/a> this past weekend inside Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n While Diaz had a few flashes of success with his trademark volume boxing and pressure, the fight was largely dominated by Perry, who mauled Diaz with punches, elbows and knees before the cageside doctor waved things off due to severe cuts<\/a>.<\/p>\n One person who definitely did not feel sorry for Diaz afterward was recently retired former interim Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion Dustin Poirier.<\/p>\n Poirier, who has tried to fight with Diaz dating back to 2018<\/a>, absolutely unloaded on the Stockton native during an appearance on Paramount\u2019s Deep Waters podcast.<\/p>\n \u201cWe could\u2019ve fought. Nate knows that,\u201d Poirier said. \u201cI wish he would be honest with the fans and say that he pulled out or didn\u2019t come to terms with the UFC<\/a> or whatever it was for the couple times we were supposed to fight that it never happened.\u201d<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n \u201cBut, dude, after the way he looked on Saturday night, he can\u2019t talk right now man,\u201d Poirier continued. \u201cYou need to take a break. He needs to go get some sleep and some rest. He looked like dog shit. He looked horrible. He looked like he didn\u2019t want to be in there, looked like a punching bag. He looked off balance. His timing was horrible. When somebody loses, I don\u2019t like to shit on them too hard, but he knows.\u201d<\/p>\n Diaz actually mentioned Poirier during his post-fight interview after losing to Perry, joking about Poirier\u2019s retirement from MMA \u2014 and apparently that struck a nerve.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s crazy that he\u2019s bringing me up in a post-fight,\u201d Poirier said. \u201cApparently, he still wants the fight or is thinking about it. It\u2019s just like, after a performance like that, it\u2019s like I\u2019m picking on somebody now if I\u2019m chasing Nate Diaz, the way he looked.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s like I\u2019m picking on an easy fight, easy win,\u201d Poirier added. \u201cBut, Nate Diaz, I will knock you clean out if we fight.\u201d<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Despite officially retiring after his trilogy loss<\/a> to Max Holloway last year in Louisiana, \u201cThe Diamond\u201d admitted he would seriously consider returning if the UFC finally booked him<\/a> against Diaz.<\/p>\n \u201cMy invitation is still out there,\u201d Poirier said. \u201cAt 170, I\u2019ll go back in the drug test protocol or whatever. I will knock Nate Diaz completely out.\u201d<\/p>\n At this point, it feels like the rivalry between Diaz and Poirier may never fully die \u2014 even if the actual fight still somehow hasn\u2019t happened after nearly a decade of callouts, canceled negotiations and mutual trash talk.<\/p>\n Still, after Diaz\u2019s rough showing against Perry, fans may not exactly be begging for that matchup anymore.<\/p>\n
