{"id":684183,"date":"2026-05-21T13:13:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T13:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/684183\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T13:13:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T13:13:10","slug":"olympic-weights-and-qualifying-process-confirmed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/684183\/","title":{"rendered":"Olympic Weights and Qualifying Process Confirmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingireland.ie\/la2028-qualification-system\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Courtesy of IABA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Qualification System developed by World Boxing for the boxing competition at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28) has been approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).<\/p>\n<p>Under the system (<a href=\"https:\/\/stillmed.olympics.com\/media\/Documents\/Olympic-Games\/LA28\/BOX-LA28-Qualification-System.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HERE<\/a>) 248 places are available at LA28, which will be the first Olympic Games in history to feature gender parity in the boxing competition with seven weight classes each for men and women that will be contested by 124 males and 124 females.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>MEN\u2019S WEIGHTSWOMEN\u2019S WEIGHTSWeightsPlacesWeightsPlaces55kg1851kg1860kg1854kg1865kg2057kg2070kg2060kg1880kg1665kg1890kg1670kg1690kg+1675kg16TOTAL124TOTAL124<\/p>\n<p>The Qualification System is made up of three global competitions and five Continental events which means that boxers will have up to four opportunities to secure a place at LA28.<\/p>\n<p>The qualification pathway and the boxing competition in Los Angeles will be overseen and managed by World Boxing which is the International Federation for boxing recognised by the IOC.<\/p>\n<p>The first qualification event will be the 2027 World Boxing Championships in Kazakhstan which will be followed by five Continental qualifiers in 2027 and 2028.
