{"id":684229,"date":"2026-05-21T13:42:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T13:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/684229\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T13:42:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T13:42:09","slug":"canada-fluorspar-proposing-extension-to-st-lawrence-mine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/684229\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada Fluorspar Proposing Extension to St. Lawrence Mine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/st-lawrence-canada-fluorspar-mine-2.jpg\" class=\"header-image\" alt=\"Canada Fluorspar Proposing Extension to St. Lawrence Mine\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Photo via Canada Fluorspar.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/canadafluorspar.ca\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canada Fluorspar <\/a>is looking at extending its St. Lawrence fluorspar mine.<\/p>\n<p>The company has filed a proposal for its South Ridge Project for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.nl.ca\/eccc\/files\/env_assessment_y2026_2406-Registration-Document.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">environmental assessment.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Canada Fluorspar operates a mining and milling operation near St. Lawrence on the Burin Peninsula \u2013 the only fluorspar mine in North America and the continent\u2019s largest fluorspar deposit.<\/p>\n<p>The company, which is under new management says the extension project is driven by growing global demand for the mineral which is recognized by Ottawa as essential to clean technologies including aluminum production, refrigerants, batteries and electronics. <\/p>\n<p>The company is hoping that restarting the mine, which will take pressure off of industries looking for supplies could be in operation and sustain jobs for the next three decades. <\/p>\n<p>The project will include a new open pit and will make use of the existing processing mill, tailing facility, roads and export terminal. <\/p>\n<p>The project was registered in April with the minister\u2019s decision expected in early June.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#13; (Photo via Canada Fluorspar.)
