Manchester United<\/a> goalkeeper Andre Onana<\/a> has been branded the \u2018worst signing in the club\u2019s history\u2019 ahead of the new Premier League<\/a> season.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils paid \u00a344m to sign Cameroon international Onana from Inter Milan in 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Onana had established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe during his time in Italy and helped Inter reach the Champions League final<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That form has largely deserted Onana since his move to Old Trafford, however, with a number of high-profile mistakes leading to intense scrutiny over his place in the team.<\/p>\n

A number of pundits have urged Ruben Amorim to sign a new shot-stopper this summer<\/a> to replace Onana but the United boss has instead focused on bolstering his attacking options.<\/p>\n

Manchester United were interested in signing Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa<\/a> and continue to be linked with a move for PSG outcast Gianluigi Donnarumma<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, the signings of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha took priority and as a result Onana remains Amorim\u2019s No. 1 heading into the 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n

Onana missed the entirety of pre-season with a hamstring injury but is believed to be fit for Sunday\u2019s mouth-watering clash with Arsenal.<\/a><\/p>\n

Already under pressure at the club, Onana has suffered another blow after being named the \u2018worst signing in Manchester United\u2019s history\u2019 by sports broadcaster Richard Keys.<\/p>\n

Discussing PSG\u2019s reported \u00a325m asking price for Donnarumma, Andy Gray said on beIN SPORTS<\/a>: \u2018It depends on what a manager wants and needs. But is he worth \u00a325m? Absolutely.<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s worth that to anyone who needs a\u00a0proper goalie. Hold on, what did Andre Onana cost Man United? What did he cost?\u2019<\/p>\n

Keys then said: \u2018Well, too much. Quite simply the worst buy in Manchester United\u2019s history, bearing in mind they gave away a world-class keeper [David de Gea] to sign him.\u2019<\/p>\n

Turning the conversation back to Donnarumma, who is set to leave Paris after being replaced by the French champions, Gray added: \u2018He\u2019s 26, probably not even in his prime yet.<\/p>\n

\u2018But he\u2019s already got a vast amount of experience, won the Champions League with PSG and the Euros with Italy.<\/p>\n

\u2018Somebody will surely take him.\u00a0\u00a325m is nothing these days, it\u2019s nothing. A goalkeeper with his pedigree will not be sitting on the bench for long.\u2019<\/p>\n

Former Sky Sports presenter Keys, meanwhile, also revealed his doubts over Manchester United\u2019s three summer signings.<\/p>\n

\u2018From bust at Christmas according to Jim Ratcliffe to a massive spend this summer,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018Not sure about him (pointing to Benjamin Sesko). We said\u00a0Mbeumo\u00a0would get a decent club and he has but 75m euros? He\u2019s had one season, he\u2019s had one good season.\u2019<\/p>\n

Raising Cunha as another unconvincing signing, Keys said: \u201975m euros for a party boy.\u2019<\/p>\n

But former Scotland striker Gray defended Manchester United\u2019s summer transfer business, saying: \u2018Those three players are miles better than what they had last year, miles better.<\/p>\n

\u2018I don\u2019t see any reason why they shouldn\u2019t get a bucket load of goals between them, but it depends what happens at the other end of the pitch.\u2019<\/p>\n

Manchester United finished just 15th in the Premier League last season, 24 points outside the Champions League places.<\/p>\n

Their first opponents Arsenal, meanwhile, finished second for the third season in a row while reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League<\/a>.<\/p>\n
