Lorena Wiebes did what she does at Stage 1 of the Vuelta a Burgos F\u00e9minas on Thursday. She used her incredible sprint to take another big win, adding to the list of many.<\/p>\n
The first stage of the Spanish race was expected to favour the fast finishers. Although the route included three categorized climbs, all came early in the day and none were especially difficult, leaving the sprinters\u2019 teams firmly in control heading into the flat finale.<\/p>\n
Early break in Spain<\/p>\n
An early breakaway with Elyne Roussel, Irene Cagnazzo and Oda Aune Gissinger animated the stage before Roussel was dropped, leaving Cagnazzo and Gissinger alone out front. The pair built an advantage of around three minutes, but the peloton steadily reeled them back in and made the catch with 17 kilometres remaining.<\/p>\n
That set up the bunch sprint in Burgos.<\/p>\n
SD Worx-Protime took charge in the final kilometre to deliver Wiebes into position, and she launched her sprint with 250 metres to go. Chiara Consonni finished second, and Georgia Baker was third.<\/p>\n

National road champ Alison Jackson (St Michel \u2013 Preference Home \u2013 Auber93) fresh off a brief gravel excursion in Scotland, was 19th in the bunch. Kiara Lylyk<\/a> (Mayenne Monbana My Pie) who had a tough spring so far, had a great finish, just a few spots behind in 26th. Great to see the talented 21-year-old rider back in the mix. Jackson\u2019s teammate, Clara Emond who started off the season with a strong sixth at Trofeo Marratxi-Felanitx was 42nd.<\/p>\n Kiara Lylyk on a terrific opening Classics weekend<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n There are three stages to go, and there are definitely some lumps\u2014but none more so than the final stage which has a nasty little 6-km summit finish to Lagunas de Neila.<\/a><\/p>\n Racing is being broadcast on FloBikes.com<\/a>.
