{"id":68685,"date":"2025-08-14T09:42:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T09:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/68685\/"},"modified":"2025-08-14T09:42:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T09:42:08","slug":"astronomy-enthusiasts-flock-to-turkiyes-van-for-perseids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/68685\/","title":{"rendered":"Astronomy enthusiasts flock to T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s Van for Perseids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Skywatchers in eastern T\u00fcrkiye&#8217;s Van gathered at the 2,600-meter-high Alande\u015ft Plateau to witness the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysabah.com\/life\/science\/perseids-light-up-night-sky-as-annual-meteor-shower-reaches-peak\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Perseid<\/a> meteor shower, one of the year\u2019s most spectacular natural events.<\/p>\n<p>The event, organized by the Vadi Outdoor Sports Club in the \u00c7atak district, brought astronomy enthusiasts together for telescope observations and naked-eye viewing of the meteor shower.<\/p>\n<p>Participants, who traveled 80 kilometers (49.70 miles) to the high-altitude plateau, received guidance from astronomy experts on space observation, meteor showers and astrophotography.<\/p>\n<p>Astronomer Sadi Ak\u0131n told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the Perseid meteor shower is a special annual sky event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe came with a group of 26 nature enthusiasts. We chose this area because of its high altitude and nearly zero light pollution. Our participants came prepared, and we are watching the sky with excitement,\u201d Ak\u0131n said.<\/p>\n<p>H\u00fcseyin Demez, a member of the Vadi Outdoor Sports Club, said the group was witnessing a beautiful natural event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe timed our skywatching event to coincide with the meteor shower. We are at a high altitude far from settlements, which makes it an ideal location to observe the meteors. The participants are very enthusiastic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve-year-old I\u015f\u0131k \u015een, who attended with her father, said, \u201cWe set up tents, lit a fire, and then learned about constellations.
