The Winnipeg Sea Bears have a new captain at the helm. Rh\u00e9anne Marcoux was named the new team president on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Marcoux made her name during an eleven-year tenure with the Blue Bombers. Now, she\u2019ll bring all her experience to a Sea Bears franchise that\u2019s on the rise in popularity.<\/p>\n

Marcoux rose from the Bombers\u2019 marketing department to Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the 112th\u00a0Grey Cup.\u00a0She came on board as a consultant with the Sea Bears last spring before being named Chief Brand and Experience Officer in January.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like my whole career has been kind of at the intersection of fan experience, fan experience, building brand, and big live moments, and that\u2019s what this role is all about, so I do feel like this is the right next move for me, and I\u2019m really excited about it,\u201d said Marcoux.<\/p>\n

David Asper, the Chair of the Winnipeg Sea Bears, says, \u201cShe understands all aspects of the business, it\u2019s not just the show that the fans see, there\u2019s a ton that goes on behind the scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asper, who remains the team\u2019s chair, says that after working with Marcoux last year, he knew she was the right person to lead the franchise into the next level of growth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat thought process is all about competence and capability, and Rheanne had been affiliated with us for almost a year now and she joined us full time in January and it was just a natural evolution.\u201d<\/p>\n

The move makes Marcoux one of three female team presidents in the CEBL.\u00a0She says that while she wants to be a model for young women who dream of working in sports, it should be more of a norm.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs much as it is nice, a little bit overwhelming to be thought of in that sense, because you know when I started my career there were few women in the sports world, and unfortunately it\u2019s still not quite where we would like it to be, hopefully one day this isn\u2019t a storyline right? It\u2019s just normal and par for the course,\u201d said Marcoux.<\/p>\n

The Sea Bears host the Niagara River Lions on Friday night, where Marcoux will be formally introduced to fans as the new president. As for her hoops skills, don\u2019t expect her to suit up any time soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish I had some bragging rights there, but I really don\u2019t,\u201d said Marcoux.<\/p>\n
