Iwo Baraniewski<\/a> (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC<\/a>) a 2025 graduate of Dana White’s Contender Series,<\/a> has gotten off to a fast start in MMA’s No. 1 promotion since securing his contract less than nine months ago. On the night of Sept. 14, he set foot inside the Octagon at Meta Apex for a midweek bout against Muhamad Aly.<\/p>\n

This contest ended quickly as Iwo Baraniewski finished Aly inside the opening round’s first 30 seconds with a barrage of punches, including some ground and pound shots. UFC CEO Dana White <\/a>gave the prospect his deal at the end of the program. From there, Baraniewski’s racked up two more victories under the UFC promotional banner, both before the first round ended.<\/p>\n

Most recently, he secured a knockout win against Austen Lane after just 28 seconds. Timewise, the March 21 victory is the second-quickest stoppage of his professional MMA career.<\/p>\n

New Adversary Awaits Iwo Baraniewski for UFC Vegas 118 June 6<\/p>\n

15 days from now, the UFC will be back home in the friendly confines of Meta Apex for UFC Vegas 118.\u00a0<\/a> While Iwo Baraniewski is still currently slated to appear on the card, it won’t be against the opponent he was initially training for, as earlier\u00a0Friday, the UFC announced that there would be a change to the schedule of events <\/a>that first Saturday in June.<\/p>\n

Billy Elekana (10-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) was booked to fight Baraniewski on the Apex card before the former withdrew from the show. No specific reason was given for Elekana’s removal from UFC Vegas 118.<\/p>\n

In Elekana’s stead, Junior Tafa<\/a> (7-5 MMA, 3-5 UFC) draws the assignment of Iwo Baraniewski for this three-round fight at five minutes per round. Tafa previously fought Elekana on Feb. 1 during UFC 325<\/a>on Feb. 1, losing by way of submission (rear-naked choke) in the first round of action.<\/p>\n

Junior Tafa with Quick Turnaround in UFC Vegas 118 vs. Iwo Baraniewski<\/p>\n

As recently as a few days ago, fighting inside the fabled Octagon on June 6 was the furthest thing from Junior Tafa’s mind. It was three weeks ago Saturday when Tafa last went to battle in UFC Perth.<\/a><\/p>\n

That night, he scored a first-round knockout with elbows from the top mount at 2:42 into the period. By the time fight night versus Iwo Baraniewski happens, just five weeks, 35 days, will have elapsed for Junior Tafa between competitions.<\/p>\n

The June 6 contest inside the Meta Apex is already Tafa’s third bout of 2026 and fourth bout since last July, having posted a 1-2 record in that span, with his lone win coming three weeks ago in his home country of Australia.<\/p>\n
