An NBA spokesperson said in a statement that the deal \u201cis expected to close shortly\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2025\/08\/13\/celtics-sale-to-bill-chisholm-officially-approved-by-nba-board-of-governors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BOSTON HERALD, 8\/13<\/a>). When the sides agreed to the deal five months ago, it was announced that 51% of the team \u201cwould be sold to Chisholm\u2019s group after the deal was finalized, with the balance closing in 2028,\u201d with lead governor Wyc Grousbeck \u201cremaining in control of the team until then.\u201d But\u202fthat plan &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/08\/12\/report-wyc-grousbeck-wont-remain-celtics-governor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">was slightly altered this week<\/a>&#8221; because \u201cafter the final funding of the transaction, Grousbeck\u2019s holdings dipped below the 15 percent required to be lead governor,\u201d according to sources. Chisholm will now \u201cstep into that role immediately after the deal closes.\u201d Sources added that Grousbeck \u201cwill remain in the ownership group as alternate governor and CEO through 2028,\u201d and that \u201che and Chisholm intend to run the team together for the next three years, similar to the original agreement\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/08\/13\/sports\/celtics-bill-chisholm-wyc-grousbeck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BOSTON GLOBE, 8\/13<\/a>). Chisholm\u2019s group includes a number of stakeholders including Aditya Mittal, Robert Hale, Bruce A.
