{"id":690830,"date":"2026-05-24T15:31:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T15:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/690830\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T15:31:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T15:31:09","slug":"kate-martin-could-force-sparks-to-part-ways-with-another-player-for-contract-reasons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/690830\/","title":{"rendered":"Kate Martin could force Sparks to part ways with another player for contract reasons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kate Martin is on a developmental contract with the Los Angeles Sparks, which allots her up to 12 regular season appearances for L.A.<\/p>\n<p>Martin has already gotten into four games since joining the Sparks on the eve of the 2026 WNBA season.<\/p>\n<p>Soon enough, a decision could be coming.<\/p>\n<p>If Martin keeps playing, and the Sparks want to keep her, they&#8217;ll eventually have to cut someone else to give Martin a standard contract.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Kate Martin, who signed to a developmental contract with the Sparks on May 10, has checked in for her 4th game for LA. Developmental players can play a max of 12 games for a given team.
