Police in Surrey are investigating after a home was targeted by gunfire Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says it was called to 57 Avenue near 148 Street around 4:40 a.m.<\/p>\n

Responding officers confirmed damage to the residence and evidence of shots fired.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe residence was occupied at the time of the shooting, and fortunately, no one was injured,\u201d said an SPS statement.<\/p>\n

Police add that the incident is suspected to be related to extortion, and the Extortion Response Team is investigating.<\/p>\n

Local resident Kristy Kula says she woke to the sound of gunshots.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was out of a deep sleep, so it was about five or so that I heard. Bang, bang, bang, in succession,\u201d said Kula.<\/p>\n

After 20 years in the neighbourhood, she says nothing like the shooting has ever happened so close. But Kula says she\u2019s not worried.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s funny. The neighbours are like, \u2018Is it time to move?\u2019 But I\u2019ve always felt safe, and it\u2019s a very good community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anyone with information on the suspects or video of the shooting is asked to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca and quote file number 26-49687 (SP).<\/p>\n

As of Wednesday, the SPS said 108 extortion crimes had been reported in Surrey in 2026, affecting 59 victims, including 17 shots fired and two arsons.<\/p>\n

Chief Norm Lipinski stated that in 2026, Surrey has seen a decline in both reported extortion threats and extortion related shootings. <\/p>\n

\u201cThese lower numbers do not lessen the impact on victims, but they do show that sustained enforcement, prevention and community engagement efforts are making a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
