Twenty-one loaded handguns, nearly 200 rounds of ammunition and illegal add-ons \u2013 including a silencer \u2013 were seized from Winnipeg\u2019s Central Park neighbourhood, leading to one man\u2019s arrest, police said.<\/p>\n

In addition to those items, $25,000 in cash, 27 grams of cocaine \u2014 which would be worth $2,700 if sold \u2014 and electronics were seized by police on May 7, Insp. Josh Ewatski with the Winnipeg Police<\/a> Service\u2019s organized crime division told reporters at a news conference on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cInvestigators also located evidence indicating that a firearm had been discharged from within the suite, and the round had struck a church across the street\u201d from the Cumberland Avenue apartment building, Ewatski added.<\/p>\n

Officers discovered the round had struck the church after executing a search warrant by tracing the bullet\u2019s path earlier this month, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy seizing these firearms, the organized crime unit members have [possibly] prevented numerous shootings, including homicides \u2013 not only in Winnipeg and Manitoba, but throughout Canada,\u201d Ewatski said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we\u2019ve learned that many of these firearms are trafficked within the province and across the country either before or after being used.\u201d<\/p>\n

Investigations are ongoing into whether any of the guns confiscated by police were used in other crimes across Canada, the inspector continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0attempting\u00a0to trace them to\u00a0determine\u00a0where\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0come from.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0possible that they have been used in other offences, but we\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know\u00a0that for sure yet,\u201d\u00a0Ewatski\u00a0told reporters.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce these firearms are used, often we\u2019ll see that they\u2019ve been sold again. We\u2019ve had firearms used in a shooting in Winnipeg and then that same firearm is used in a shooting in B.C., and it\u2019s the same going east as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other items seized by police included cash and cocaine, the WPS said.<\/p>\n

The\u00a024-year-old\u00a0man arrested by police is also accused of selling cocaine in\u00a0several\u00a0northern Manitoban communities, where the profit margins are high and the competition is slim.<\/p>\n

\u201cDrugs come from other areas of the country to Winnipeg and then are shipped to northern communities. And then they sell those drugs at twice the street value that you would normally see within Winnipeg,\u201d Ewatski said.<\/p>\n

The accused Winnipeg man is facing 77 firearm and drug trafficking-related charges, the inspector added.<\/p>\n

His firearm charges include 21 counts of possession of a prohibited firearm, 22 counts of careless storage of a firearm, and one count of possession for the purpose of weapon trafficking, the WPS said.<\/p>\n

So far in 2026, six gun-related homicides have been reported in Winnipeg, according to the inspector. He also said the city has seen 42 shootings, 13 of which involved someone being shot.<\/p>\n
