(EMUEagles.com) –

The Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team added yet another chapter to its historic ledger of accomplishments this year as the Eagles moved up five spots in the standings following the fourth and final round of the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships, May 25, to not only finish fifth in stroke play, but punch its ticket to match play as one of the top eight teams in the field. Making their first appearance in the national tournament, the Eagles, who entered the event ranked No. 27 nationally, are now three wins away from a national title.

“(I am) just excited,” Head Coach Josh Brewer said. “I was calm all day for some reason and just had a weird feeling this morning that it was going to be an extreme and it was the right extreme for the day. I am just so proud of them. What a day of golf! I give the credit to the young ladies who believed in us. They took a chance at a school that had nothing to sell them, and it starts with Savannah de Bock and (assistant coach) Catarina Don. They followed me and helped me recruit everybody. I’m just lucky enough to have them in my life and believe in me as their coach before and help me build something that’s starting to turn into a pretty special story. We came out and shot the low round of the day and flying around the national championship, which is super special, so hats off to them. They embraced the day and we have been getting better each day, so we are excited to move into match play and see what we can do.”

The Eagles fired a final-round score of 4-under 284 to finish fifth overall at 2-over 1,154, climbing five spots in the standings to advance to its first appearance in match play. Additionally, the Eagles are only the second NCAA Division I program from the state of Michigan to reach match play.
» The Eagles added more entries to the record book with their play. The 284 strokes tied for the ninth-best in program history, the best in any round of the NCAA Championships by a MAC school, and the second-best by a Michigan school. The score also ranked as the best fourth-round score by a MAC team (291, Kent State, 2010) and the record for the final round for a Michigan school.
» Eastern finished with 1,154 strokes over four rounds and obliterated the program record by 74 strokes in the process. The previous record was 1,228 strokes set in the 2008 MAC Championships, one of only four other 72-hole tournaments the Eagles have played ahead of this year’s national tournament. Additionally, the EMU score bettered the MAC record by 30 strokes (1,184, Kent State, 2018) and the score for a Michigan school by 24 (1,178, Michigan State, 2014).
» Eastern is set to compete in match play for the ninth time in program history and the first since the 2020-21 MAC Match Play, Feb. 7-8, in Lakewood, Fla., where the Eagles placed seventh. After taking seventh at the 2014 Hoosier Fall Invitational, the Eagles competed in the MAC Match Play event for seven consecutive years with a pair of runner-up finishes in 2015 and 2016 standing as their best placements.

Individual Notes
» Savannah de Bock used a final-round 69 to shoot 3-under 285 and place tied for 12th to tie for the highest finish in MAC history (Mira Meixner, Kent State, 2006). The 285 strokes for de Bock broke the MAC record for a 72-hole tournament, bettering the mark by three after Wad Phaewchimplee of Kent State shot 288 in 2014, while sitting second for a player from a Michigan school behind Allyssa Ferrell of Michigan State, who shot 283 in 2014.
» Baiyok Sukterm posted a final-round 1-under 71 to finish the tournament at or under par in each of the rounds played.
