{"id":695079,"date":"2026-05-26T15:13:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T15:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/695079\/"},"modified":"2026-05-26T15:13:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T15:13:10","slug":"iio-investigating-after-man-shot-by-surrey-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/695079\/","title":{"rendered":"IIO investigating after man shot by Surrey police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The province\u2019s police watchdog agency was called to a West Newton home Monday night after Surrey police shot a suspect.<\/p>\n<p>The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO) says the Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to a report of a \u201csuspicious male\u201d attempting a break-in at the home on Southpark Crescent near Boundary Drive South around 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice located the man who was the subject of the call and attempted to detain him. There was then an interaction, and shots were fired by police. The man sustained injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital for assessment and treatment,\u201d the IIO described.<\/p>\n<p>Officers and paramedics reportedly treated the shooting victim at the scene before he was taken to hospital for \u201cinjuries of unknown severity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The SPS then notified the IIO, which began investigating police actions.<\/p>\n<p>The IIO is the civilian oversight agency for police and detention guards in B.C.
