THE CANADIAN PRESS\/Adrian Wyld<\/p>\n<p>By The Canadian Press<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\tMay 26, 2026 | 10:54 AM\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>OTTAWA \u2014 Inclusion Canada and dozens of other disability and mental health organizations are calling on Ottawa to call off a planned expansion of access to medical assistance in dying next year.<\/p>\n<p>People whose sole underlying condition is a mental illness are not eligible for medical assistance in dying.<\/p>\n<p>A parliamentary committee of MPs and senators has been studying whether Canada is prepared for that exclusion to end next March. <\/p>\n<p>Now, 90 organizations have penned an open letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney, Health Minister Marjorie Michel and Justice Minister Sean Fraser. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Peace Tower is framed between tulips on Parliament Hill, in Ottawa, on Monday, May 11, 2026.
