Dave Sidaway \/ Montreal Gazette<\/p>\nFresh off capturing the team\u2019s first Walter Cup last week, Montreal Victoire players, coaches and management visited city hall on Tuesday to sign Montreal\u2019s Golden Book.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The team was greeted by chanting fans outside and welcomed by the mayors of Montreal and Laval, who both wore Victoire jerseys for the occasion.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Before inviting them to sign the book, Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada thanked the players for what they contributed to the city this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeyond the goals and wins on the ice, you\u2019re advancing something much bigger: women\u2019s place in sports, young girls\u2019 confidence and a city\u2019s collective pride,\u201d Martinez Ferrada told them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen young girls watch you play, they don\u2019t just see hockey players. They see role models \u200a\u2014 \u200astrong, disciplined, ambitious women\u200a \u2014\u200a and, above all, endless possibilities,\u201d the mayor added. \u201cThat changes a city. It changes an entire generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Victoire secured the title last week <\/a>after defeating the Ottawa Charge 4-0 in Game 4 at Ottawa\u2019s Canadian Tire Centre, losing only one game in the best-of-five series final.<\/p>\n The Montreal team finished at the top of the standings this season and reached the Professional Women\u2019s Hockey League playoffs for the third year in a row. They are the first Canadian team in the league\u2019s three-year history to win the Walter Cup.<\/p>\n After visiting city hall Tuesday, where they hoisted the cup to applause and cheers, the team will take to downtown streets on Saturday for a short parade and celebration at the Quartier des Spectacles<\/a>.<\/p>\n Speaking at the signing, team captain Marie-Philip Poulin said it was an honour to represent Montreal and described the support the team received during the playoffs, even when on the road.\u00a0<\/p>\n Poulin spoke of feeling fans\u2019 energy when most needed and said she hopes to see them on Saturday, \u201cso we can all enjoy this together.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe worked so hard all year to be able to bring the Walter Cup (to Montreal), and we did it,\u201d Poulin said. \u201cWe did it for ourselves, we did it for the city, we did it for the whole country.\u201d<\/p>\n![\"Woman](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/0527-city-victoire3.jpg\")
